As we return to normal life following the winter holidays, many of us make resolutions. One of the most popular New Year’s goals is to improve oneself, many of which relate directly or indirectly to physical wellness. The hassle of getting proper cardio during a busy day can make motivation a hard commodity, but Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer addresses that inconvenience quite effectively. Here’s our review of the new fitness game just in time for healthy habits in 2025.
Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer is a Nintendo-published fitness game that aims to make workouts easier and more fun. Featuring over 30 songs, including catchy renditions of pop hits, the game feels akin to being in a dance or body weight workout class, but you don’t interact with other humans. Instead, you pair up with your in-game personal trainer, then get moving in a boxing workout that fits your goals. Used to push your heart rate or simply keep you limber, there are lots of options.
With several different trainers to choose from, you’re quickly acclimated to the simple gameplay through a series of tutorials. From jabs to uppercuts, core-focused punches, and sequences meant to target your upper body muscles, there’s a surprising amount of variety here. Having not played the first two games, I can’t compare the offerings here, but I am pleasantly surprised with what the game offers you in terms of customization for many fitness goals.
I will say, compared to another Nintendo fitness game, Ring Fit Adventure, there’s a lot more left to the individual in terms of actually getting a significant workout from this game. Akin to Just Dance, movements are based more on approximate movements tracked in the Joy-Cons. This can lead one to put in a 20% effort yet look at the results of a hard workout and think they’re seriously putting in the work. It’s up to you to push yourself in Fitness Boxing 3.
Of course, other fitness games focused on full-body workouts offer more variation. With boxing being the core workout type here, it’s not hard to feel like you’re doing the same thing every day. Players can plan a Daily Workout tailored to their personal goals or jump right into a quick session. While this offers some modification, you’re still largely punching to the beat of a pre-set training module. Despite a few of these shortcomings, I’m still high on Fitness Boxing 3 for a few key reasons.
A lot of my daily fitness activity comes from either walking or running. In recent years, I’ve moved away from bodyweight or free-weight exercises. I’m telling you, a week with Fitness Boxing 3, I felt the burn in my arms. After a month of playing, I could actually feel muscles toning, particularly in my biceps and shoulders. It’s not going to be a plan that gets you ripped, but a good 20 minutes or more with Fitness Boxing 3 feels like a great way to diversify your daily workout routine.
I also feel that a good bit of user-friendly design choices were put into the game. It’s not hard to set up goals, workout plans, or even play with customization for your trainer. Nothing in terms of choosing outfits for my virtual motivator was earth-shattering, but it was a nice touch. Overall, I looked forward to getting in and out of my game sessions. It’s not something I could see myself doing 60 minutes a day, seven days a week, but it is a nice addition to work into my weekly routines.
For those looking to start 2025 with new fitness habits and those looking to diversify their workout routine, I think Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer achieves its goal. It’s up to you to really commit to each exercise and put in a full effort, but if you do, I think there are tangible improvements you’ll see from this game on top of diet and additional exercise. Gamifying things can make them more fun, and if you’re in an exercise rut, this might be exactly what you’re looking for as 2025 progresses.
