I snort house-building games almost as much as I snort shop-ownership games. Ok, that’s a lie, there is only one reason I know how to type “MOTHERLOAD” so fast I can probably beat a court stenographer. The point is, yesterday afternoon, as I had some lunch and doom-scrolling social media (we all do it), I saw something about Architect Life: A House Design Simulator. With a priapism the size of a Clydesdale horse, for once a targeted ad wasn’t trying to sell me tampons. Even better yesterday Shine Research and Nacon announced a release date for Architect Life (as it is simply called, sometimes).

Architect Life offers high replayability through two main game modes: the ‘Career Mode,’ with 60 varied missions, and the ‘Free Mode,’ which allows players to create their dream houses, with or without constraints,” as the press release notes. “Thanks to Shine Research’s technical expertise, the team has made it a point of pride to ensure that the game is just as easy to control with a gamepad as with keyboard/mouse, so that everyone can become an architect in their own way.” Not only do you have controller support on PC, but Architect Life will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

Continuing on, the press release notes a couple of key features: “Your clients are counting on you to design their dream home! By following the specifications provided, players can design the ideal home for their clients. Architect Life offers a set of intuitive tools to help them unleash their creativity, such as the ability to build straight or curved walls, [multi-story] houses[,] or roofs of any shape.

Building constraints are also integrated into the game to create a healthy and comfortable living environment. Players must ensure proper heating in every room and meet their clients’ specific requirements for each space. Players can furnish both the exterior and interior, placing a few pieces of furniture that will help their customers to envision themselves [sic]. A wide range of customizable textures and colors is available in-game, thanks to a color wheel that creates an infinite number of possibilities.”

The second highlighted feature being “Step into the Architect’s shoes;” I’d rather not though, I like mine and I don’t like looking as if I vote Tory. Back to the press release: “Once the plans have been drawn up, it’s time to choose the subcontractors and monitor progress on site. Budding architects must always be ready to adapt to unforeseen events during construction, such as the vagaries of the weather, problems with selected contractors and so on. They need to make the best decisions to complete the project on time and within budget.

As they progress in Career Mode, players can grow their business, [and] unlock new terrains and bonuses in the skill tree. These upgrades grant access to new construction techniques and special materials, essential for tackling larger and more complex architectural projects.

The great news is, you can get your Kevin McCloud on (not impregnating the women) pretty soon, mostly by pretending two people who have a budget of £12 million and live in a caravan will make their dream house on their own, staying in budget. I might have seen a bit too many Grand Designs. Digression aside, Shine Research and Nacon have announced that Architect Life will be coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in June of 2025. On Steam and ads on social media, we get a touch more specific with June 5th.
