As the Steam Winter Sale kicks off for 2024 and lasts until early January, there’s a vast wealth of games that are on sale. While some newer or AAA games may only be 10 or 20 percent off, some games are offered at insane discounts of 90 and even 95 percent. With some of those discounts from games originally priced at 50 or 60 dollars, it’s still nuts to think you could be paying a tenth of what it typically goes for. Valve has highlighted these titles in a section on the homepage titled “Featured Deep Discounts,” so here are some of the first titles on offer worth considering!

NFS Heat – Deluxe Edition | -95% at $3.49

It is wild to see a AAA game on offer for a whopping 95% off, but EA tends to be good with offering their older titles at reasonable prices compared to counterparts like Activision. NFS Heat received solid reviews from critics at launch, but still has a passionate player base that enjoys the racing title to this day. At less than the price of a cup of coffee, you’re looking at dozens of hours behind the wheel with gorgeous visuals and thousands of people still playing five years later, meaning the online modes aren’t dead just yet, especially after a sale when they get a bump.

South Park: The Stick of Truth | -90% at $2.99

The first true turn-based game I ever picked up, South Park: The Stick of Truth is one of the best TV show adaptations into the gaming realm to date. With an engaging combat system that’s accessible to pick up for newcomers and a laugh-a-minute story that breaks regular video gaming conventions, it’s one of those must-play-if-you-haven’t titles on offer even after a decade of it being out. At three dollars, this one feels like a no-brainer for those with even a slight interest.

BORDERLANDS Game of the Year Enhanced | -90% at $2.99

Despite the dreck of a movie that was released earlier this year, now really is an optimal time to get into the Borderlands franchise, and there’s no better way to do it than picking up the title that started it all at this deep discount. Containing all the DLC expansions and tuned to work excellently on modern machines, this one is not just great alone but worth picking up to go on a loot cruise with a bunch of buddies if they’re willing to shell out 3 bucks for a great time. With Borderlands 2 at either $5 or $8 with all DLC, delving deeper into the franchise is a worthwhile endeavor, too.

Warhammer Vermintide II | -90% at $2.99

Itching to play Left 4 Dead 2 but want something new? The natural thing to do is pick up Warhammer Vermintide II at 90 percent off. Even if it’s six years old, it’s still getting new updates: a mode just launched that mirrors L4D2‘s Versus Mode, allowing you to take control of the rats and breathe new life into your playthroughs. At a measly three dollars, there’s a breadth of content to experience at this price point, and it’s yet another game worth questing around with pals in.
