It’s that time again folks! Valve has hit the big red button and is holding our wallets at gunpoint. Hundreds of games are on sale, and it is hard to pick through the noise and decide what to buy, right? Well, here are a few recommendations to possibly pad your library or fill a last-minute gift need.

Fields of Mistria – 20% off

Fields of Mistria is in Early Access right now, but already it packs in a lot of content. Its latest update just added romance mechanics, and the game itself already serves as a contemporary alongside heavy hitters like Stardew Valley. Early Access games usually go up in price when they are released in full, so now is a great time to pick up a game that’s only going to get better from here.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – 50% off

Dragon Quest XI S has been out a while, but at a measly 20-dollar price tag picking this up on sale is a no-brainer. Any RPG fan will enjoy the over 100-hour journey through Dragon Quest XI’s lush, gorgeous world. Are you a fan of more retro-styled RPGs? The Dragon Quest XI S version offers the ability to play the entire game in retro mode, with 16-bit pixel graphics for the entire adventure. There’s so much content involved the purchase practically pays for itself, and the game is a blast too.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth – 30% off

Now I know I just recommended a Square Enix RPG but hear me out on this one. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth isn’t even available on PC yet and they’re marking it down 30%. If there were ever a time to pick it up, now is the time. Never mind the fact that Rebirth is easily one of the best RPGs I’ve played this year and I’ve played some really great RPGs this year. Join Cloud and his crew for another piece of the epic story where timelines shift, destinies are defied, and nothing is quite what you expect.

Blasphemous 2 – 50% off (20% with DLC)

Blasphemous 2 is probably one of the best Metroidvania games I’ve ever played. Blasphemous 2 leans more heavily into Metroidvania elements than its predecessor while still immersing you in a grotesquely beautiful, Gothic world. You can either get the base game for half off or purchase the full package at a 20% discount and get the newly released “Mea Culpa” DLC with it. Either way the experience is immaculate, and you’ll be in for a great experience.

Backpack Hero – 40% off

Backpack Hero fits another of my favorite genres. By blending Rogue-like elements with the puzzling nature of inventory management, it mixes dungeon crawling with that sweet “just one more run” vibe of games like Enter the Gungeon or Slay the Spire. Now in full 1.0, Backpack Hero also has a story/campaign mode, along with lots of updates and additions, including Workshop support. 40% off is a steal for such a fantastic (and low-impact) game.

American Truck Simulator – 75% off

For a game that has been supported since 2016 and is still getting new content, American Truck Simulator is the perfect option to pick up on sale. The DLC is on sale as well (for varying percentages from 69 to 71 percent off) and you can spend hours driving through (most of) the continental United States. If you’re someone who needs something to do while you listen to podcasts or ponder the heat-death of the universe, check out American Truck Simulator.

Control – 80% off

With the recent announcement of Control 2, and the connection to Control 2 in Alan Wake 2’s most recent DLC, it only makes sense to add this recommendation. Control is 80% off, and if you haven’t played it already it is probably Remedy’s best game. As a mix of third-person shooter with the narrative beats of a thriller, Control mixes conspiracy elements with supernatural phenomena to masterful effect.

With that last game in mind, there are plenty of games on Steam that are worth your time. Some honorable mentions are things like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (50% off), and Animal Well (20% off).
