I’ve been watching a lot of Star Trek: Voyager lately, and some of the most interesting episodes are ones involving Time Loops. There is something fascinating about the idea that someone can get stuck in a repeating puzzle of temporal space that forces them to learn things about themselves and the world. Now, a new RPG has been announced that takes this idea and runs with it.
Announced during the Indie Live Expo over the weekend, Re:Choice is a Shooter RPG and a mystery adventure all in one. You play a character who must experience a 10-day time loop where every 10 days the circumstances of his favorite idol and streamer disappearing resets. The good news about this is that each loop gives more information and new paths to investigate. Here is what the press release says about Re:Choice.
“RE:Choice is a time-loop adventure RPG where the story branches from the very beginning, depending on your decisions.
The story follows a high schooler obsessed with a popular live-streamer and their oddball companion. When they learn their favorite idol is destined to vanish, they use their special ability to glimpse memories and dive into investigating the mysterious case. But…
Players control the protagonist during the 10 days leading up to the idol’s disappearance. You can raise your stats, interact with characters, or delve into people’s memories to uncover clues about the case.
However, you only have 10 days, and stopping the disappearance is a formidable challenge. And then the inevitable happens… The idol disappears. But immediately after, the protagonists find themselves sent back 10 days, retaining all their memories.
Choices unavailable in the first playthrough become accessible starting in the second. Your decisions shape the story, creating divergent paths right from the beginning. Use the power of restarting to defy an inescapable fate.”
There is currently no release date for Re:Choice, but I’m already very interested. It strikes me as an exciting story that could run the gamut from either an Alien Invasion story or perhaps some sort of Matrix-esque simulation. Here’s hoping we’ll learn more about Re:Choice very soon.
