Mascot platformers are a part of gaming history and have been since characters like Mario, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon captured our imaginations. In recent years, games like Yooka Laylee have tried to recapture that magic, with varying degrees of success. Now, indie developer Eat Pant Games has tried its hand at the concept.

They have announced Teeto, an adventure platformer set in a vibrant and colorful world. They’ve taken inspiration from the greats and hope to explore a new world with new characters and challenges. Here is what the press release says about Teeto:

Teeto is an adorable adventure platformer that follows the thrilling escapades of a tiny blob named Teeto and his obnoxious bunny companion, Nory, as they unravel the mysteries of their existence in a vibrant and wonderful world.

Harness Teeto’s incredible power to absorb and transform into any object in the environment. Master these unique abilities to conquer shadow monsters, navigate the world, and tackle challenges set by a cast of crazy characters. Dive into an unforgettable journey brimming with discovery and delightful surprises in both single[-]player and co-op modes.

With our debut title Teeto, we aim to combine immersive narratives, heart-warming characters[,] and satisfying adventure platforming gameplay to create a charming and fun intergenerational experience designed for single[-]player or multiplayer co-op with friends and family.

Teeto will meld nostalgia for the classic platformers like Mario 64, Spyro The Dragon, Kirby[,] and Crash Bandicoot with innovative gameplay and mechanics, delivering an experience that feels both familiar and refreshingly new. With Teeto’s art style, the crazy characters, and the range of dynamic levels, our aim is to appeal to those who love to explore, collect, and replay for hidden secrets and achievements.

While there is no current release date yet, the developers have announced on Steam that early in 2025 there will be another demo update focusing on story and co-op elements. Hopefully this means that the development is going smoothly and that we may see Teeto reach completion by the Summer or Fall of 2025. Either way, I’m excited to see how the game shapes up, since Mascot Platformers hold plenty of nostalgia for me.
