We’re getting close to the end of the year, and a lot of people think that means that releases are slowing down. That only really works for AAA games, as Indie devs release things later or more frequently. Innervoid Interactive is running with this idea. Their newest game is quickly on its way to Early Access.

Published by Digital Tribe Games, Dustgrave is coming to Early Access on Thursday, December 5th. This Sandbox RPG will cost $21.99 with a two-week discount of 15% to celebrate the launch of the game. Here is what the press release says about Dustgrave:

“Carve your own path in the dangerous lands of what once was the mighty Dahlan Empire – now a land of strife and conflict, with all kinds of factions struggling among them. Follow the laws or seek to sow chaos: [E]very choice is yours to make. Your actions can empower your faction to make it the most powerful of the continent[,] or you can go your own way and try to maintain a balance of power.

Featuring a deep turn-based combat system that allows combinations of skills, spells, and items, you have endless tactical options to adapt the game to your playstyle. You can also rely on Dustgrave’s advanced stealth system to achieve your goals – you can break into places to steal valuable clues (or just, well, valuables), assassinate enemies, and other questionable deeds. Just be aware that, thanks to Dustgrave’s advanced record and relationship system, the world will remember your choices — and react accordingly…

I’m intrigued by Dustgrave’s premise, especially since the developers are claiming to offer an evolving world where every action you take shifts and adjusts the world. NPCs will judge you based on their personality or faction, which is likely to make for some interesting twists and changes. However, I’ve seen games that claim this and don’t quite deliver an impactful amount of choice, at least not as much as they’d like.

The developers are planning for Dustgrave to be in Early Access for “at least a few months” while they implement feedback and add content. You can play the free prologue now on Steam as well, which will give you a taste of what you can expect after the December 5th release date.
