I love games that explore cultures and ideas other than my own. Games like Raji: An Ancient Epic showcase new locales and beautiful stories that aren’t seen often in gaming. Now there is an early look at an upcoming adventure on Steam that has me very intrigued.
Developer Mezan Studios has released its first demo for Nightscape, a 2.5D adventure inspired by Arabian astronomy. Nightscape will be launching on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, though we aren’t exactly sure when. The Steam page says “Coming Soon” so I imagine it’s sometime between 2025 and the heat death of the universe. Here is what the press release says about the Nightscape Demo:
“In Nightscape, you play as Layla as you explore an ancient Arabian land, wielding stellar powers in your quest to return the stars to the sky and find your missing father.
In an odyssey inspired by stars and Arabian culture, you gain the ability to use constellation powers that allow you to manipulate the elements. Call on the power of the wind, or make rain fall from the sky to manipulate your environment to solve puzzles. Battles with monsters that require you to put your trusty bow to use and make use of the abilities of the magical Goat Kid that accompanies you on your adventure.
Layla is a young stargazer who has inherited her father’s passion for astronomy. He went missing after the mysterious Starfall. Before you stands a chaotic world and an opportunity to restore it. It’s up to you and your Goat Kid companion to use your wit, courage[,] and knowledge of constellation powers to put things right.”
Tony Davis, Head of Mezan Studios commented on this announcement, stating: “We’re really excited to offer the world a first look at Nightscape with our first demo. This is an opportunity for players to get a taste of the kinds of mechanics they will get to play with in the full release and experience the atmosphere that we are crafting, but it’s also really important to us to hear the feedback from players – we’re improving Nightscape day-by-day and hearing what players think can only help in making sure we do that job to the best of our ability.”
Personally, I think Nightscape looks gorgeous. I’m also very interested in the concept of a game based on Arabian astronomy. I think the blending of culture and fantasy will create a beautiful experience. Here’s hoping we hear more about Nightscape soon.
