Necromancy is a pretty common trope in RPGs now. That isn’t to say it is a played-out trope, but it does come up a lot. There’s nothing like raising an army of minions to fight for you, and Psychic Software’s The Necromancer’s Tale is carrying on that power fantasy.

Now, the developers have revealed the last release details for The Necromancer’s Tale. The release will be coming in June 2025, though a firm date isn’t available yet. Here is what the press release says about this upcoming roadmap:

The Necromancer’s Tale is planned to be in the Steam NextFest of June 2025 with the game release aligned with this festival. Unlike many other RPGs, in The Necromancer’s Tale you aren’t playing a hero saving the world: Instead, you are communicating with the realm of the dead and struggling with your descent into madness as you are gradually lured into the world of necromancy while trying to solve your father’s murder.

The deep and rich content and many side-quests will keep players engaged as they progress through secrecy, diplomacy, blackmail, coercion & seduction until ready to reveal themselves. Players can play the demo now on Steam and review gaming footage on YouTube.”

Game Architect Sam Redfern commented on this as well, stating: “This week we provided our final detailed roadmap to our fans and supporters. We also expressed a huge thank you to the team who have at this point implemented over 350,000 words in the game narrative, over 180 unique NPCs, a robust combat system, and an incredible city and environs.

We want to ensure that we release the game to our highest achievable standard, and although we are pretty much at content complete at this stage, we are planning balancing playtesting [in] February to May 2025 to ensure trust and tension systems, skill-checks[,] and combats are well calibrated.”

These upcoming playtests will likely get The Necromancer’s Tale where it needs to be before release. This roadmap makes me excited to see what comes next and possibly get my hands on the game in 2025.
