Xbox continues to promise that bringing games to every device or platform imaginable is the goal. It’s a fun promise to make, but one that is still held back by the decline of the console wars and technological restrictions to cloud gaming. Xbox Cloud Gaming has made huge strides in the past few years, and now gamers who own select digital Xbox games will be able to stream the games via cloud to TVs, internet browsers, and eventually Xbox consoles. Here’s the latest on Xbox’s big announcement.

Xbox announced via its Xbox Wire news center that it will allow Game Pass Ultimate members to stream select games they own through TVs and browsers on supported devices like smartphones, PCs, and tablets in all 28 countries where Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) is available. The company promises this is just the beginning and plans to bring this feature to Xbox consoles and the Xbox app on Windows next year.

Starting today, 50 games, including 2024 hit releases like Animal Well, Star Wars Outlaws, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure, are streamable. Via browser or TV, controllers like the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4 controller are all compatible with the service. On PC, some games will also support mouse and keyboard input.

Some were perturbed online about the service being limited to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers only who also own the compatible games. Some of these dissenters noted that the PlayStation Portal just added cloud streaming for PS Plus Premium subscribers on its 150+ game catalog for the subscription service with no need to add the game. These approaches to cloud gaming are different, and hopefully, folks can recognize that both companies expanding the places where you can play their games is a good thing.
