This one will be quite interesting. The last time Crowbar Collective announced a game, Facebook was just being founded, Martin Brundle was disappointed by Shrek 2, Craig Ferguson started the greatest Late-Night run, Doctor Who started again, and someone mad enough decided to remake Half-Life in Half-Life 2‘s Source Engine. Black Mesa wasn’t released fully until 2020, after 15 years of development. Here is hoping the “Rogue-lite tactical co-op shooter,” Rogue Point, takes much less time.

Announced yesterday afternoon in the UK, early to mid-morning in the US, “Team17 Digital and Crowbar Collective are working together on a new tactical shooter called Rogue Point. The CEO, the richest man in the world, is dead. [While] cutthroat conglomerates seek to carve up his kingdom. Using the MERX app, rival businessmen can order private mercenary armies as easily as ordering takeout! Only Rogue Point, an elite, independent vigilante squad, dares to fight back.

Your objective is clear. Eliminate the MERX, and put an end to the corporate war. Gather up to 4 friends and build an elite team, engaging in challenging missions with a dynamic Rogue-lite twist offering hundreds of ways to play.”

As you can guess, the trailer looks nice, the set-up despite being very TV/games-focused rather than realistic (just yet) is fine, and overall, it sounds interesting. Maybe a touch more extraction shooter than tactical, though has hints of it more in Rainbow Six Seige than SWAT, Black One Blood Brothers, and countless others. Rogue Point definitely has my attention thus far.

General Manager for Team17 Digital, Ann Hurley, said of Rogue Point: “Team17 has had amazing success in the shooter genre and we’re delighted to offer another incredible title in that space by teaming up with FPS veterans, Crowbar Collective. We’ve seen the high quality they brought to Black Mesa and together we know Rogue Point will take things to the next level.

While Crowbar Collective CEO and Project Lead, Adam Engels, said: “We’re very excited to share that we have partnered with Team 17 for our upcoming co-op shooter, Rogue Point. We cannot wait to go in-depth about the game, and everything we learned while creating a new IP (as well as turning Crowbar Collective into a full-time development studio).

We can’t thank Team 17 enough for their support and expertise. Just like Black Mesa, we want to heavily involve the community in our development and updates. Our community was critical in the Early Access of Black Mesa and having Team 17 as a partner for Rogue Point helps us focus on development and community feedback!

The setting and ideas are certainly interesting, the look is fine, but only time will tell how well Rogue Point will be received. You can wishlist Rogue Point on Steam right now, but as of the time of writing, there is no set date for the early access release. On Steam it is listed as 2025, but we’ve no idea beyond this vague window. We did get a few questions answered though.

According to the announcement post on Steam, “Rogue Point is a PVE cooperative shooter. We do not have any plans for Player vs Player combat. The core of the game is in PVE and that is what we want to focus on.” There is also no plan for microtransactions at this point (good), and for the early access period, there will only be a Steam release. At present, there are no plans for further storefronts or platforms.
