I’ve had my eye on Marvel Rivals since it was announced. The Hero Shooter genre is a little oversaturated, but Marvel Rivals has something that could set it apart. The sheer love people have for the Marvel universe might just give it an edge. Now, a new reveal adds a little more diversity to the roster.

Moon Knight was announced for Marvel Rivals at the D23 Brazil Expo, ahead of the game’s December 6th launch. The expo also revealed the musical talent working on the game as well as the game’s musical composer. Here’s what the press release says about the news from the expo:

“On Saturday at D23 Brazil, Marvel Games and NetEase Games announced that Moon Knight will join the launch roster for Marvel Rivals. The new Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter lets players assemble an ever-evolving all-star squad of Super Heroes and Super Villains battling with unique powers across a dynamic lineup of destructible maps from across the Marvel Multiverse. The highly-anticipated game launches December 6 with all heroes unlocked and free to play at launch and beyond.

At the event, the team also officially announced Shota Nakama as the music producer and arranger for Marvel Rivals, and Masahiro Aoki as the game’s music composer. Nakama is known for his previous work on Final Fantasy XV and Made in Abyss while Aoki is known for his previous work on Street Fighter V and Bayonetta 3. During his stage presentation at D23, Nakama also performed several music selections from Marvel Rivals to attendees.”

The press release goes on to describe the character of Moon Knight: “Mercenary Marc Spector was given a second chance at life when he became the avatar of the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. As Moon Knight, he doles out righteous vengeance, locked in a never-ending battle with both the criminals on the streets and the voices in his head. In Marvel Rivals, Moon Knight wields supernatural powers bestowed by Khonshu to vanquish his foes.

When crafting Moon Knight’s in-game persona, the development team incorporated a color scheme of white and black, drawing from the rich tapestry of ancient Egyptian mythology linked with Khonshu, and added ‘Egyptian Faience’ material to his costume design, infusing Moon Knight’s appearance with a mystical and exotic allure. Departing from the traditional form-fitting suit seen in the comics, the team integrated technological components and rugged armor motifs into the character’s design.

This enhances the visual impact while aligning with the game’s aesthetic, allowing Moon Knight’s aggressive combat style to seamlessly intertwine with the gameplay. Moon Knight can summon a portal above the battlefield, connecting him to the cosmos and summoning the formidable and enigmatic arms of Khonshu, rendering his enemies defenseless.”

Adding Moon Knight to the Roster is a great idea, especially with his recent popularity after the Disney Plus series. With the release of Marvel Rivals on December 6th (at least in its early days) fans will have a wide array of heroes to choose from as well. Here’s hoping Marvel Rivals lasts a while.
