I am a huge fan of the Dragon Age franchise. I’ve played every game in the series and enjoyed much of the extended media. From books to the most recent podcast, the Dragon Age series captivates fans new and old. So, why do we not have a compilation of the original games on modern platforms?

I have considered this since the Mass Effect Legendary Edition was released. While you can play every game in the Dragon Age franchise on PC, console gamers don’t really have access to Dragon Age Origins or Dragon Age II anymore. It would be wonderful to see the first two entries in the franchise remastered and released on modern platforms.

Not only would this be great for fans of the franchise, but it would also be great for new players too. They could even take a page out of the Kingdom Hearts franchise’s book and add supplemental content to the bundle. Perhaps bundle in some short stories or animated vignettes with plot elements from extended media.

With Dragon Age: The Veilguard coming around very soon, it only makes sense to add this as icing on the proverbial cake. I can’t help but feel that new players may want to dive into the early franchise after playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which would likely lead them to find them on PC. Sometimes PC gaming isn’t an option, so what recourse do those gamers have?

Frankly, it doesn’t make sense as to why EA hasn’t made this an option yet. It is like practically printing free money. The fans of the franchise will come out in droves to buy the new version, and you can appeal to fans who came on board after Dragon Age: Inquisition, or new fans who came around after Dragon Age: The Veilguard is released.

It is important that people who get invested in the lore really have a chance to dig in deep. Things like the extended media can be attained in a variety of ways, but the games now have limited access. Plus, it would be nice for people to have a full collection with all the DLC in one place. If EA doesn’t already have this in the works, they’d be fools not to consider it.

The Dragon Age franchise has a storied history and deep lore full of intricate elements that can change depending on the choices you make. Of course, there is a certain degree of “canon” based on plot elements necessary for the later games to come around. However, even within those elements, there is freedom and room to manipulate outcomes. So, it’d be nice to offer newer fans the chance to experience the different story tracks and world states firsthand.

Hopefully, we’ll get some sort of announcement for this later in the year. The Game Awards is coming in December, and it would be a perfect time to announce a Dragon Age Legendary Edition compilation. Otherwise, it’d be nice to see the possibility of it on the horizon.
