Delays aren’t unheard of, and they certainly happen to AAA titles regularly, but Ubisoft surprised everyone yesterday with a delay for its flagship stealth series. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set to release November 12, 2024, will now be held back to February 2025. The decision, on top of polishing, is also connected to the performance of another Ubisoft release that disappointed investors. Here’s the latest news.

In a statement on Q4 financial targets for the company, Ubisoft shared its intention to hold back its upcoming Assassin’s Creed release. “Assassin’s Creed Shadows will now be released on February 14, 2025,” Ubisoft said. Going on to say, “while the game is feature complete, the learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title.” Those learnings include the fact that the game sold millions of copies less than the company expected, despite critics and fans liking the game.

Ubisoft added that this delay “will enable the biggest entry in the franchise to fully deliver on its ambition, notably by fulfilling the promise of our dual protagonist adventure, with Naoe and Yasuke bringing two very different gameplay styles.” Anyone who pre-ordered the game will have their pre-order for November canceled, and new February 2025 pre-orders will come with the game’s first expansion for free.

The game will also launch on Steam on day one, which is a nice bit of news accompanied mostly by disappointment. Hopefully, the delay means the game is that much better when we get our hands on it. Let us know in the comments if this changes your plans to play Assassin’s Creed Shadows!
