October kicks off my favorite time of the year. The weather gets cooler, I love Halloween, and we get closer to the Holiday season. I get a special Halloween treat this year, as Blasphemous II’s developers just announced two cool new announcements in one.

I adored Blasphemous II when it launched back in 2023. On October 31st, The Game Kitchen and Team 17 will be releasing the paid “Mea Culpa” expansion, as well as a free update called the “True Torment” update. There is a lot of content coming to Blasphemous II across all platforms, and the free update alone includes expanded zones, New Game+, new enemies, challenges, and more. Here is what the press release says about both the DLC and the update:

“The Game Kitchen and Team17 Digital are preparing to return to Cvstodia, with the Mea Culpa to hand, to experience an alternate ending to Blasphemous II.

Featuring a new ending, new bosses, new zones, new abilities, new enemies, new quests and a new… New Game+, experience Cvstodia like never before in this massive expansion to Blasphemous II and become the wielder of one of the most powerful artefacts – The Mea Culpa.

Blasphemous 2: Mea Culpa is a premium expansion for Blasphemous 2. The expansion’s story centers around Mea Culpa, the lost sword wielded by The Penitent One in the first game.

Blasphemous 2: Mea Culpa launches alongside the FREE “True Torment” Update. This update includes not just the highly requested New Game Plus mode but a host of other features too including the expansion of existing zones and new zone connections, new abilities, new enemies, new prayers, QoL features, accessibility features[,] and much more.”

Since I almost gave Blasphemous II a perfect score last year, I think it is safe to say I am vibrating with excitement right now. More accessibility features in a game like Blasphemous II never hurts, and new content in general has me super hyped. This is a perfect reason to return to Blasphemous II if you haven’t finished it. A new ending is also a great reason to return if you have finished the game. Our penance hasn’t finished folks, there is still more to be done.
