The Rogue-like deckbuilding genre has always been a personal favorite of mine as an avid card game fan, and Wildfrost is certainly a standout within the genre. Developed by Deadpan Games and Gaziter, Wildfrost is set in a world gripped by an eternal winter. You take on the role of brave adventurers from the village of Snowdwell, who set out on a quest recruiting allies and gathering items in a bid for survival.

With a whimsical cartoonish art style and some unique mechanics (such as the counter system), the game will easily absorb hours of your time as you experiment with different combinations and playstyles. Wildfrost also includes some elements of turn-based tactical RPGs, as each combat encounter requires you to play your cards strategically across a grid where they battle against one another. Positioning is especially important with certain cards, providing a variety of effects based on their location.

This week, on September 12, developer Super Rare Games is partnering with Wildfrost publisher Chucklefish to release a limited print run for Wildfrost. This release will be exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch, with there being 4,000 available copies that will be split into 3,000 standard editions and 1,000 deluxe editions.

The deluxe edition will include some exclusive Joy-Con controllers, decorated with a custom design; a wooden charm, magnets, 3 postcards, a bookmark featuring the Noomlin charm, and a CD of the original game soundtrack. Each deluxe edition will also include a set of unique collectible trading cards and a full-color manual, which is an especially nice touch for collectors or simply those folks like myself who miss when every game would come with this included.

The standard edition of Wildfrost will retail at $39.39 USD while the deluxe edition will sell for $73.54 USD. Those who purchase the standard edition also have the option of separately ordering a pack of the trading cards found in the deluxe version for around $3.00 USD. You can order the physical version of Wildfrost now through the Super Rare Games online store.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
