Horror multiplayer games are a surprisingly huge hit on platforms like Twitch. Given the popularity of horror films and the fun of watching people avoid dire circumstances live, it makes sense why titles like Dead by Daylight or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have sustained huge fan bases. A new horror co-op game focused on an extraction game mode is coming from Exit Plan Games, which might be a new favorite. Here’s what we know about Panic in the Woods:

In this particular horror game, “players step into the shoes of a troop of Boy Scouts lost in a cursed forest, where demonic creatures feel just like at home,” according to the press release. Either as a solo scout or with a team, you’re tasked with surviving a place you know very little about. But have no fear, you’re prepared to find tools and make your way out, hopefully. The art style for Panic in the Woods looks really wonderful and certainly gives character to the short yet exciting announcement trailer below.

Here’s a bit more detail. Panic in the Woods challenges teams of up to 4 players to banish evil and survive haunted woods. Every game features a new setup with key objects and tools randomly scattered across the map, making each playthrough unlike the other. You’ll aim to equip yourself and your team with various tools to navigate the dark woods, utilizing radio-style voice chat to coordinate and strategize. Don’t be careless either, because it’s insta-death and you don’t get to respawn into the game.

With so many people loving this new horror multiplayer trend, I could see this one catching on in a big way. We’ll find out soon when the game releases on September 13, which of course is a Friday. Let us know in the comments if you plan on checking this one out.
