Sci-Fi RPG Within the Cosmos Announced

I love a good Sci-Fi experience. Keen readers might notice this from my reviews of The Orville, or my love of games like Mass Effect. A good Sci-Fi RPG hits all the right notes, and solo developer debdev is crafting something that has me very intrigued.

Debdev announced a new Sci-Fi RPG called Within the Cosmos. This First-Person RPG will immerse players in a secluded star system, where they will try to help a human society on the brink of collapse. Here is what the press release says about Within the Cosmos:

“The year is 2278, and humanity teeters on the edge of extinction. Players assume the role of one of 500 members of the United Earth Space Agency (UESA), who were placed in cryogenic sleep and launched aboard a starship to the remote Adallio star system, far from the war-torn Earth. Upon awakening generations later, they find a human society divided into factions, each with its own politics, philosophies, and ambitions. To make matters worse, a deadly android enemy has recently appeared, threatening the fragile peace.

Players must navigate this divided world, where their choices will influence the outcome of the story. Will they unite the factions or deepen the divides? Will they find the truth behind the android threat or become another victim of it?”

Debdev, creator of Within the Cosmos commented on this announcement, stating: “Within the Cosmos has been a part of my life for nearly a decade. Inspired by the ethical dilemmas of Star Trek and the immersive gameplay of titles like Deus Ex and Fallout, my vision was to create a sci-fi RPG where every choice matters. Despite financial setbacks, I’ve poured my heart into this project and [I] am excited to finally share it with players.”

The Deus Ex inspirations really have me interested in Within the Cosmos. Plus, the idea of another solid Sci-Fi RPG where choices matter appeals to me greatly. The October 4th release date can’t come soon enough.
