Fairy Tail is a popular manga turned anime that many folks love across the globe. Like many hit series from Japan, turning iconic characters and worlds into a video game experience feels inevitable. While other Fairy Tail games exist, the latest release from developers Ginolabo and Kodansha Game Creators’ Lab explores a genre that has risen in fans’ ranks as of late. Roguelike deckbuilding is a gameplay mechanic many enjoy. Now, they can see a new story unfold with their favorite Fairy Tail characters in the series’ first indie game release in its long history. Here’s more about the game!

Players face the challenge of exploring solo dungeons as one of five iconic Fairy Tail guild members and aim to grow ever stronger with new skill cards collected in battles and chests. The game guides you to strategize attack order to unleash destructive Magic Chains on terrifying foes like minotaurs, cyclops birds, and giant orcs. Unlock powerful amulets after surviving or falling in dungeons with earned points to better prepare for future runs. Players also carefully plan out the deck and upgrade skills to activate each character’s full potential. Call upon celestial spirits as Lucy to deal massive damage, form defensive structures as Gray to increase survivability, and charge fearlessly with Erza’s deadly sword.

Fairy Tail: Dungeons marries the beloved series’ setting with classic roguelike elements to create a rich, in-depth adventure,” said gino, the creator of the title. “It’s a privilege to bring this first Fairy Tail indie title to long-time fans, and we look forward to showing more titles soon!” If you’re a fan of deckbuilders, you know the devil is in the details when it comes to setting one title apart from another. Fairy Tail: Dungeons has one major advantage over other games in this sub-genre: it features characters many know and love. Whether or not that makes it a worthy addition to your Steam library remains to be seen.

Fairy Tail: Dungeons is now available on PC via Steam for $13.99. It supports English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French and Thai. To learn more, check out the official website.
