It seems the moon turned blue, then red, then exploded into a dragon and became an egg in that awful episode of Doctor Who all at once this weekend. No, hear me out. Valve has formally announced a game. I know, that’s about as rare as a rich White guy going to prison for as long as normal folk would for the same crime. I don’t think I need to explain what I am talking about, Deadlock has been on the lips of many people for several weeks and months now as it is (presumed) to be the next game from Valve whenever the next blue moon comes around.

The confirmation comes in the form of the Steam page, which is rather barebones, to say the least. “Deadlock is still in early development stages with lots of temporary art and experimental gameplay,” notes the section where you usually see a full description of the games. There is also a note on limited access: “Access to Deadlock is currently limited to friend invites via our playtesters.” Of course, there is nothing in terms of system requirements, date, or any of that. We know it will be in English first and foremost, with support for several other languages, but that’s about it.

The only other “detail” worth mentioning is the “trailer.” I hate calling it that as it is a 22-second-long video that is basically a concept art piece that has that hint of movement thing about it, so it is about as informative as a politician or someone at Valve when asked about Half-Life 3, am I right you kids? Yes quite so, the memes are supposedly tasty.

From what we know due to the leaks and other such, Deadlock (presumably a placeholder name) is a 6vs6 MOBA with third-person action. The Twitter account @gabefollower shared a video from a developer referred to as “Yoshi” showcasing placeholder assets from Left 4 Dead, Dota, and Half-Life, supposedly. Call me mad, but I don’t think we’ll see Deadlock surface for another year at least, maybe two at a push. We know Valve isn’t exactly quick with that whole developing games thing since the pile of money raked in via Steam sales every day.
