It’s that time again folks. It is time for Gamescom, where people gather in Germany to cover the best and newest announcements before the holiday season. Of course, this is a Geoff Keighley showcase, so we’ll have a lot to talk about. Let’s see what Gamescom 2024 has to offer us.

The showcase started with an announcement that there was also a live sign-language version of the stream. I am thrilled that a more accessible version was available. Then, we moved to the first announcement of the night, a reveal trailer for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 will be coming to PC and consoles in 2025. Of course, this first trailer was a cinematic reveal, not any indicator of plot or gameplay beyond a strange meteorfall. I’m curious about this one.

Next up was a Call of Duty Black Ops 6 gameplay segment. Black Ops 6 is being released on October 25th, 2024. There will be a new campaign, and 16 new multiplayer maps. There will also be two brand-new Zombies experiences on day one. On August 28th there will be a Call of Duty Next event to showcase more multiplayer information.

Then came a trailer for Goat Simulator Remastered. This remastered version of Goat Simulator is coming sometime in 2024 to PC and consoles. I loved Goat Sim so I can’t wait to replay it.

The next segment was a quick update on Persona 3 Reload. The story DLC: “Episode Aigis: The Answer,” will be released on September 10th. This finally brings the content from the original Persona 3 “The Answer” release to next-gen. Also, Joker from Persona 5 is showing up as a challenge boss.

Dying Light took the stage next, with a new announcement for Dying Light: The Beast. This new experience in the Dying Light world will have 20+ hours of gameplay and is coming to PC and consoles. There’s no release date yet on this one though.

Next up came the launch trailer for Black Myth Wukong. Now that the game has been released on PC and PS5, the launch trailer showcased a little more of what players can expect.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero was next on the agenda, with a new trailer and a full segment. Sparking Zero will be released on October 11th.

The next segment was an animated trailer for King of Meat, a four-player co-op action platformer. It seems to have a little Fall Guys, mixed with action-combat. King of Meat will be released on PC and Consoles, including Nintendo Switch.

A new, world premiere came next for Lynked: Banner of the Spark. Lynked is a co-op Action Hack-and-Slash with Rogue-like and Town-building elements. You can play alone or with friends to take on the robot hordes aiming to wipe out organic life.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage took the stage next, with new footage. Developed by the narrative minds behind Life is Strange, Lost Records showcases a thrilling, suspenseful tale interspersed with memories of a young female garage band. Tape 1 will be released on February 18th, with Tape 2 releasing a month later on March 18th.

The next trailer was for No More Room in Hell 2. This zombie survival game looks brutal, but also incredibly creepy. We still don’t have a release date yet, but you can wishlist it now on PC. Arc Raiders returned to the spotlight for the first time since the 2021 Game Awards. The stylistic trailer just showcased a 2025 release window.

Infinity Nikki showcased a new trailer as well, revealing cute creatures and a beautiful fantasy world. You can sign up for a closed beta now on PC and PS5, but no release date has been announced.

Next up came Predecessor, which got a trailer showcasing its gameplay interspersed with fancy cinematics. The gameplay of this MOBA/Hero Action game looks interesting, but it might be a little out of my usual preference. You can play Predecessor for free now.

Path of Exile 2 has my attention, especially after the next segment. Finally, we have an Early Access release date of November 15th, 2024. After this cinematic trailer, I’m even more excited than I already was. It looks fantastic.

After the popularity of the Dune films, it only made sense that we would see Dune: Awakening at Gamescom this year. It got a pretty decent segment showcasing the Open-World Survival MMO gameplay for the first time. We also got a good look at the character creation, amongst a variety of other systems. Dune: Awakening is coming to PC in Early 2025.

THQ Nordic announced a new game called Reanimal next. This is a game created by the developers of Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares 2, Tarsier Studios. I’m unclear on whether this is a new IP or if the next Little Nightmares game has been renamed. Regardless, it is coming to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation at some point.

Now we get to the first obligatory Hoyoverse segment, starting with Genshin Impact. Genshin is in its 4th year, releasing a new island on August 28th. It is also coming to Xbox and Game Pass on November 20th, 2024.

Monster Hunter Wilds came next in a full segment. We got a good look at the gorgeous monster designs, as well as combat and a little bit of storyline. Monster Hunter Wilds will be coming in 2025, and you can wishlist it now.

Next was a short segment for the Naraka Bladepoint crossover with Tomb Raider. I love that the Tomb Raider IP has been getting some love recently. Lara comes to Naraka Bladepoint on August 28th.

After an announcement at Summer Game Fest, Fatal Fury: City of The Wolves returned for another quick trailer. Of course, this trailer came with quite a bit of fan service, focusing on Mai Shiranui. Fighting game fans will enjoy this one when it launches on PC and Consoles on April 24th, 2025.

Mecha Break showed off another trailer next, revealing mech combat and a short trailer. There isn’t a release date yet, but you can wishlist it now. It looks cool, but I don’t know if it is my thing.

Something that interested me was the next segment on Monument Valley 3. I enjoyed the first two games, with beautiful aesthetics and interesting puzzles. This third installment is (at least for now) a Netflix Games exclusive that will be released on December 10th.

The next major segment was Civilization 7. After a previous reveal, this is the first time we’ve gotten a solid look at the game. It looks beautiful, and there seems to be a wealth of new content and mechanics at play. Civ 7 will launch on February 11th, 2025.

Starfield had a new segment as well, revealing the Rev-8 vehicle. This rover/buggy-esque vehicle seems like it will change the way you explore, take on enemies, and more. I’m an awful driver, so this isn’t exactly for me. However, the Rev-8 is available now, so you can start playing around with it at your leisure. The new Shattered Space DLC will also be coming to Starfield on September 30th.

Marvel Rivals appeared next with a decently sized segment. Bucky Barnes and Captain America were both added to the roster. It seems that Bucky is more focused on his Winter Soldier era, though I imagine costumes down the line may change things. Marvel Rivals will be launched on December 6th, 2024 for PC and consoles as well.

It was also revealed that all characters will be free to play at launch, without them needing to be paid for or unlocked. This will carry on beyond the launch period as well. The next segment was presented by Tim Miller and Secret Level, revealing something new.

Secret Level is a new anthology TV series showcasing quality animation. The episodes will take place in the worlds of various games, across known franchises, new games, and indies. Secret Level will be launching on Amazon Prime Video on December 10th. The series looks beautiful, and I can’t wait to see it.

Age of Mythology Retold was next on the agenda. The trailer revealed more about what you can expect from the reimagined game, along with a September 4th, 2024 release date. It looks beautiful and I am interested in digging into it after all this time.

Another quick trailer came up next for Towerborne. The game is coming to Steam Early Access on September 10th, but it will also be coming to Xbox and Gamepass at a later date. It’s an interesting concept, but I’m not sure what to make of it yet.

Delta Force Hawk Ops returned to the stage after the Summer Game Fest announcement a few months back. I have a few issues with how this one is presented, but I’ll leave that for another time. Delta Force Hawk Ops will be coming to the Steam Next Fest in October.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 came next, and while I know folks are excited, I’m just not sold. The combat looks visceral, but the story just doesn’t grab my attention. All the same, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be released on February 11th, 2025 for PC and Consoles.

Another Hoyoverse segment came next for Zenless Zone Zero. I still haven’t gotten around to playing this one, but I’m intrigued. The segment covered the reveal of New Eridu, a new area coming soon. It looks interesting, but I’ll have to dig into the game’s opening area first.

Then Honkai Star Rail got a moment to shine, with a trailer showcasing new characters. There will also be a collaboration with Fate/Stay Night in Q3 of 2025.

Now to the most well-known sugar daddy in existence, we have a segment for Batman: Arkham Shadow. I’m not a VR guy, but this segment showcased some solid gameplay on the Meta Quest 3. Arkham Shadow will be released this October. I’m impressed by what the gameplay trailer showed, but I still have reservations.

This next segment corrected something I said here earlier. Reanimal is not a new name for Little Nightmares 3. In fact, Little Nightmares 3 took the stage here! You can wishlist it now, and the trailer that was showcased looks interesting, with new cooperative mechanics and even some ranged “combat” of sorts.

Herdling got a world premiere trailer as well. Coming in 2025 Herdling looks to be a shepherd-esque game where a young person herds mystical creatures to help them solve puzzles. It seems like an interesting concept at least, but I’ll have to see more.

The next segment gave me mixed feelings. Peter Molyneux took to the stage to present Masters of Albion. Now, I’m interested in the game itself, but Peter sometimes has a tendency to oversell or not quite deliver on what he shows. With that said, Masters of Albion is an “Open-World God Game” with quests, story, and a large focus on customization and choices.

Squid Game took the stage next with a trailer for Squid Game Unleashed. Netflix Games is capitalizing on the Squid Game phenomenon with a new game that aims to let you be a part of Squid Game. There is no release date yet beyond that you will be able to “play it soon.”

Unknown 9: Awakening was next up. I enjoyed the reveal for this game previously, so I’m excited to see more. The beautiful Anya Chalotra (Yennefer in The Witcher) is front and center in the trailer presented at Gamescom, and the gameplay looks amazing. I can’t wait to play Unknown 9: Awakening when it is released on October 18th for PC and consoles.

Next up was a reveal for Tarkov Arena Breakout Infinite, which had a new trailer. The Early Access is available now, and the full release is coming this year.

Blizzard Entertainment then took the stage for a segment that led to a new trailer for Diablo IV’s Vessel of Hatred expansion.

Vessel of Hatred is releasing on October 8th, and the new trailer showcased the Mercenary companions you’ll be able to utilize in the new expansion and beyond. As a fan of Diablo III’s companions, I look forward to exploring these new characters.

I was interested in The First Berserker: Khazan when it was announced. As such, the trailer showcased at Gamescom in the next segment was still interesting. It won’t be released until Early 2025, but I look forward to seeing it on PC and consoles all the same.

Ara: History Untold was the next game on the agenda, showcasing a new trailer. History Untold will be released on September 24th and seems to have a focus on player choice in building history. I’m curious about this one, but only time will tell.

Dark and Darker is coming to Mobile! The next segment revealed a little teaser of the mobile version. You can pre-register for it now but there is no release date yet.

The next segment covered Floatopia, which looks like a cute little game. In this Life-Sim, you’ll travel through various worlds to get things to build your island in the sky. You’ll also farm crops, make friends, and explore. Floatopia will be released in 2025 on PC and consoles, including Nintendo Switch.

Another exciting segment came next, with a new trailer and segment on Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The gameplay looks solid, and Troy Baker’s love for the character seems to show in every bit of cinematic they showcased. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on December 9th, 2024. It is no longer an Xbox exclusive either. While it will launch first on Xbox and PC, it will come to PS5 in Spring 2025.

The final announcement was for Mafia: The Old Country. The Mafia franchise is returning, though we don’t know much about it yet. You can wishlist it now on PC and Consoles. Also, more will be revealed this December, likely during the Game Awards.

Overall this Opening Night Live went better than I expected. It wasn’t super thrilling, but it also wasn’t boring either. Also, we managed to go an entire Geoff Keighley showcase without a stage crasher or cringe-worthy musical performance. Here’s hoping the 10th anniversary of the Game Awards is interesting.
