I’m always down for a turn-based game. Even more so, I am a huge fan of Rogue-likes and Rogue-lites. As such, I’m always excited when a new game that I’ve never seen before comes across my desk. Alawar and Koro.Games just provided the release date for their newest venture, and I’m intrigued.

Necroking, a turn-based Rogue-lite is coming to PC via Steam on September 4th. Necroking features deck-builder elements and “endlessly replayable procedurally generated levels” while you command an army of the undead and conquer your foes. Here’s what the press release says about Necroking:

“As the Necroking, you’ll bear the crown and lead legions of undead minions to dominate the land. With over 30 units of vile creatures at your disposal, engage in real-time tactical combat, strategically deploying your forces to crush your enemies. Unlock Skulls to be granted new abilities and upgrades for your units as you wage war across the chaos-stricken cities, villages, graveyards[,] and more that lie before you.

Bask in the hand-crafted pixel art style as Necroking blends the nostalgia of classic tactics experiences with [the] modern sensibilities of the Rogue-lite genre. Continue to lay siege to your enemies as new challenges and unique scenarios await you on each new run. Are you ready to make quick decisions amidst the chaos? Only time will tell as you explore the variety of difficulty options and a new game plus mode available in Necroking.”

You can wishlist Necroking now and prep for the September 4th release date. I think it looks cool, and has an almost Loop Hero-esque visual style. I can’t wait to see how it actually plays though, since the gameplay looks unique to most things I have played recently.
