Atlas Fallen was unfortunately one of the many games to launch last year that somewhat fell by the wayside. Given the amount of quality titles to choose from, it can be hard to spend your time on what was only realistically a middle-of-the-road experience. However, the developers at Deck13 are hoping to reinvigorate the action RPG with an expansive new update.

The “Reign of Sand” update will be available for free to all players and will include a variety of features. The first of these is the brand new area called “The Source,” which is described as “a twisted divine realm filled with new challenges.” These challenges include three new enemy types called The Transmuter, Morpher, and Weaver.

While exploring The Source, players will receive new combat options in the form of Wraith abilities. These abilities will allow you to transform briefly into monsters like the Shellshocker or Mawer to unleash powerful attacks. “Reign of Sand” will also add the New Game Plus feature which will allow you to restart with all your gear and abilities unlocked to focus on delivering the ultimate gameplay challenge with a new difficulty mode, this is called “Nyaal’s Nightmare.”

Additionally, “Reign of Sand” will add new gear in the form of 25 new essence stones, which unlocks various perks and abilities. Players can also expect new armor sets along with a variety of quality-of-life features. VFX, sound design, and UI are being overhauled to provide a higher quality of gameplay, and Atlas Fallen is even receiving new voice acting for the main protagonist.

Finally, another new gameplay feature comes in the form of Corruption Breaches. These challenges will appear sporadically across the open world and promise to give players worthwhile rewards and memorable combat encounters. Each breach will impose various modifiers that can take on the form of buffs or debuffs in order to enhance difficulty or change up gameplay dramatically.

It’s nice to see some developers remain committed to improving the gameplay experience rather than quickly abandoning a title because of poor reception. Hopefully, Atlas Fallen can help itself stand out from the crowd of action RPG’s with the “Reign of Sand” update. Players can download this update for free now and carry over all progress from old save files. New players will have “Reign of Sand” automatically included upon purchasing the base game on PC or Consoles.
