This past weekend THQ Nordic held a short showcase preceding Gamescom. This event contained updates regarding a variety of upcoming projects for the studio as well as some new game announcements. There’s a decent chunk of news to cover so let’s not waste any time.
The event kicked off with the debut of a brand-new IP. The Eternal Life of Goldman is a new title by Weappy Studio which takes place in a fantastical archipelago. I love the look of this game. It seeks to capture the style of hand drawn animation similar to something like Cuphead while also delivering on the platforming gameplay. There is no release date yet but the game will be available for all platforms.
Next came some updates for upcoming releases. The charming colony-building simulator Space for Sale will be entering early access right now. This game allows you to adventure through the galaxy solo or with a friend constructing various bases, exploring strange environments, and interacting with aliens.
The upcoming remaster of the dark fantasy platforming title Epic Mickey will be launching for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on September 24th. You can pre-order the game to receive two special costumes as well as early access. This is such an underrated gem from Disney and I’m hoping it can receive more recognition with this re-release.
Following these updates came a new trailer for Wreckfest 2. Though no gameplay was shown, this sequel promises to deliver the ultimate crash racing experience. According to the press release the game boasts an impressive physics engine that mirrors realistic destruction. Vehicles will be fully customizable and offer extensive upgrades to allow you to craft the ultimate engine of destruction.
Titan Quest II also received a new trailer giving audiences a first look at gameplay. The environments and gear look especially beautiful here although combat did seem a little stiff for my taste. There is still no word on the release date yet but I’m interested in giving this a try. I love Greek mythology and a top-down action RPG set within that universe sounds appealing.
Another title to receive a gameplay trailer included the upcoming remake of Gothic 1. Additionally, this trailer gave an overview of the game’s setting which takes place in a massive penal colony sealed off from the outside world through magic. After a revolt by the convicts, the mine has developed into a nuanced society filled with various factions, each with unique goals and motivations.
There will be a new DLC coming to Way of the Hunter. Featuring the new area of the Lintukoto Reserve players can expect a host of new wildlife to hunt while exploring the natural beauty of the reserve. The DLC is available now.
Finally, this showcase concluded with two exciting teasers. The first was the announcement of a new title from Tarsier Studios, the creators of the Little Nightmares series. You can expect more about this title at Gamescom on August 20th. The second was a teaser for a new project set within the Darksiders universe. This is my favorite series from THQ Nordic and I’m hoping for another full-action RPG that can act as a penultimate climax to the series.
