We see release dates change all the time, usually in the direction that is away from us. Though when it very rarely happens, we do sometimes get game releases moving up on us. That’s seemingly the case with a remaster of Suda51 and Tomo Ikeda’s strange 2012 hack-and-slash title, which is getting a remaster you may have heard of. Haven’t we all been a teenage woman who’s part of the cheerleading team during the zombie apocalypse with our boyfriend’s head dangling from our belt like a loud-mouthed keychain while we use a chainsaw to fight zombies? I need to talk to my therapist about my dreams.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a remake turned remaster announced back in July of 2022 and was set to release sometime in 2023. Like most games, the release date changed. Unlike the announcement yesterday, this pushed the release back into 2024. Apparently, players requested that RePOP was only a remaster and not a full-blown remake, and that’s somehow something you can do? I’m skeptical, as one requires building the game from the ground up again, and the other is just polishing the textures and refining the mechanics a little.

Nonetheless, Dragami Games have changed out the word beginning with R and have moved ahead on the project, seemingly without director Suda51 or writer James Gunn – yeah the same James Gunn that said Lollipop Chainsaw inspired a part of 2021’s The Suicide Squad. However, after the initial delay back into 2024 and a release date of September 25th, Dragami Games’ president Yoshimi Yasuda announced the release date change to September 12th, 2024.

This change in release date is only for North, Central, and South America and Europe. Asia will have to wait until the 26th of September for the release of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. The announcement was made in a tweet on that hellscape we used to call Twitter (or if you’re sane, still do) by Yoshimi Yasuda. This remaster will also be released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and of course, on PC.
