Browser games took a major hit last decade when Adobe Flash began to be unsupported on internet browsers. Gone were the days of wasting time in school with Newgrounds or CoolMathGames, as kids and teens made the transition to phones for their quick-fix gaming needs. There is still a massive amount of nostalgia held by those who grew up on the former, though, and developer DingDongVG and artist Julian have crafted a perfect way to relive it in a hilarious expedition within DingDongVG’s Summer Resort. Being playable here, the title (after some teases last summer), is now ready to be experienced by all.

With a little bit of the scenery of Habbo Hotel and the great meta-commentary on the gaming scene that can only come from someone as sly as DD, DingDongVG’s Summer Resort is a stellar timewaster that hearkens back to having nothing to do on summer break and getting lost in immersion with a quirky web game. The gameplay is as simple as walking around the large world and managing your inventory with the enter button. The game is also supported for mobile browsing, which is quite the coding feat for a solo dev project that can manage such multi-platform compatibility.

While not every kid grew up with Cartoon Network’s Summer Resort browser game, this is a welcome callback and a passion project worth taking a peek at for those who are so inclined. I won’t spoil anything about what game characters make an appearance or what goes on at this resort as the surprises are worth relishing. It’s great to see DingDong and Julian putting so much love into this neat little web game, and while it may not reach a massive audience, fans will be thrilled to put a few hours into this and see the fruits of their labor pay off.
