One of the more interesting game announcements in this year’s showcase by Games Workshop was the upcoming free-to-play racing title Speed Freeks. I love battle racing games and I feel Warhammer’s Orks are the perfect vessel to deliver all of us a new favorite within the genre.

Speed Freeks is set in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40K, the highly popular science fiction tabletop game. You play as a cult of speed-obsessed Orks who fight to prove they are the fastest, toughest Orks in the galaxy.  Players will battle it out across a variety of different game modes and raceways featuring various environments. Vehicles are fully customizable and take the form of hot rods, monster trucks, tanks, and more.

There is also no shortage of deadly weapons to add on in order to unleash death upon your rivals. Furthermore, each vehicle can be catered to a specific playstyle. Whether you are looking to build an all-out assault tank, a high-speed deadly bike, or even a support wagon you’ll be able to find an option that speaks to you.

The two main game modes revealed thus far are “Deff Rally” and “Kill Konvoy.” In “Deff Rally,” sixteen players will fight over command points similar to the objectives in the tabletop game before then racing to the finish line for a final champion. On the other hand, “Kill Konvoy is a team-based mode that features tank-like mechs made of scrap and trash called Stompas. Each team will try to defend their Stompa from the opponent while escorting it safely to the objective.

This week Games Workshop announced Speed Freeks will be entering early access on August 6th. In order to join early access you’ll need to set up an account with publisher PLAION, where you can then register during the limited window. Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks will be available on PC and the full game is set to launch later this year which will mark the start of Season 1. Though no official date has been set, I imagine it will be sometime in the late fall or winter.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
