Xbox is having a strange couple of years. After finally acquiring Activision Blizzard King at the end of last year, we’ve yet to see the library arrive on Xbox Game Pass. That said, we know that Call of Duty‘s next release will be on Xbox Game Pass day one. We have seen titles like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Starfield underwhelm some critics and players, but the Xbox Games Showcase from this past month is seen as an all-time high. I believe Xbox is still on course to be successful, and another sign of hope for the company is a new partnership with Amazon Fire TV.

Beginning in July, the Xbox app will be accessible via two Fire TV devices, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max and the Fire TV Stick 4K. With these devices, players can access games via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in over 25 countries via cloud gaming. This portable option does not require a console and could technically be utilized by someone who does not and has not ever owned an Xbox console so long as they have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription.

Titles like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Starfield, and Forza Horizon 5 are mentioned by name in the Xbox Wire blog, hinting that the full range of Xbox Game Pass’ expansive library will be compatible with Fire TV Sticks. Xbox also mentions that Fallout fans can play their favorite games in the franchise alongside the acclaimed Fallout TV show on Prime Video, which was released in April.

Utilizing the new way to play cloud games is easy thanks to a few simple steps:

  • Simply install and launch the Xbox app from your Fire TV device.
  • Sign in with your Microsoft account to play. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll have instant access to hundreds of cloud-enabled games.
  • Not a member? No worries! You can join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for one low monthly price, or check out Fortnite without a membership.
  • Connect a Bluetooth-enabled wireless controller. Controllers like the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4 controller are all compatible.
  • Start Playing!

Xbox has claimed for a while now that they want Xbox Game Studios titles and Xbox Game Pass everywhere that players are. This is another sign that they mean it, along with partnerships with Samsung devices. I’ve had a great experience with cloud gaming but I know some report the latency and lagging to be an issue depending on your internet connection. Let’s hope the medium continues to improve so that people can access games more easily and affordably in the future. No matter what your favorite console is, more access to games is always welcome news.
