Late last week an exciting announcement came from Aspyr. One of my favorite spin-off Star Wars games, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is finally receiving some well-deserved attention.

Originally released in 2002, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter lets you play as the Mandalorian gun for hire, Jango Fett. Taking place before the events of Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the game’s story sees Jango on the hunt for a rogue Dark Jedi. Equipped with Jango Fett’s signature dual blasters, flamethrowers, and jetpack you’ll fight your way through the seedy undergrounds of Coruscant in a series of exciting missions and acrobatic encounters. Aspyr will be re-releasing the third-person action game to PC and Consoles on August 1st.

This new version of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter promises updated graphics in the form of environment textures and visual lighting effects. In terms of new features, there are a few nice touches such as the addition of a flashlight tool for easier exploration, the developer promises full functionality on Steam Deck, and improved control schemes for console players. By far the most exciting addition comes in the form of an unlockable Boba Fett skin that can be equipped after beating the main campaign for the first time.

I’m hoping that this port won’t be as disastrous as the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was a series with a lot of potential that was never fully realized given the limitations of hardware on release and the ambitious scope of the project. The series was abandoned after one title, and I feel if this port does well we could see more from the concept in the future. Bounty hunters like Aurra Sing and Cad Bane could be fantastic future protagonists who could easily offer enough avenues for potential stories or innovative gameplay mechanics.

The Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster will relaunch on PC, Xbox series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch at a retail price of $19.99. However, Aspyr is offering a 10% discount for all who pre-order the game anytime before the full launch on August 1st.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
