If you are a strategy and tactics game fan, like myself, then you’ll want to learn more about the upcoming Tacticon digital event. Organized by developers at Firesquid and Hooded Horse, this event will run from July 18th to the 22nd and is hosted through Steam. During this time you’ll be able to browse hundreds of strategy games, play demos of upcoming titles, and purchase games at generous discounts. Participating developers will no doubt also reveal a few surprising announcements for new games.

In terms of content, you can expect some generous offerings from both Firesquid and Hooded Horse. Both devs will be showcasing their entire digital catalog, which includes games such as Reus 2, Crab God, Manor Lords, Empires of the Undergrowth, and Against the Storm.

Paradox Interactive promises to bring nine games including the likes of highly rated titles such as Crusader Kings III, Hearts of Iron IV, Stellaris, and Europa Universalis IV. Meanwhile, Shiro Games will be offering deals on Wartales, Dune: Spice Wars, and Northgard. Owlcat Games will be bringing the recently released Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader, a game that is certainly well worth your time, in my opinion. Other iconic strategy games that will be included are titles such as Dwarf Fortress, Rimworld, and Darkest Dungeon.

In terms of upcoming releases, there are some interesting offerings. Knights in Tight Spaces delivers a mix of deckbuilding and turn-based tactical action wrapped in a wonderful sketchbook art style that certainly has my interest. Spiral Up Games is bringing the 2.5D martial arts RPG Wandering Sword, and will most likely debut the promised major story expansion. Proxy Studios’ next sci-fi strategy title Zephon looks to ignite a new franchise within a post-apocalyptic realm that channels the universe of Warhammer. Finally, Slipgate Ironworks will showcase more from the visually impressive RTS Tempest Rising, which is set to release sometime in the next year.

All in all, I’m certainly looking forward to this event. Strategy games deserve more attention and I’m glad to see successful developers coming together to highlight the greatest entries within the space over the last few years while giving smaller teams a chance to gather a fanbase before a future release. If you find yourself so inclined you can check out the official website which details the entire list of games available during the event.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
