With Summer Game Fest in full swing, there are always plenty of showcases to go around. All week we’ve been covering the heavy hitters, but one not many people notice is Games Radar’s Future Games Show. Here is a rundown of what was covered in this meaty showcase:

The Future Games Show began with a trailer for Bogdan’s Cross. This seems to be a Crusades-era action game that tells the story of a shepherd who becomes a templar. It isn’t my sort of thing, but the art style is unique, so I’m sure it’ll catch people’s attention.

First Dwarf was next, a third-person Action RPG where you build and defend bases on a fantasy planet. I’m not a huge fan of the Tower-defense (or village defense in this case) genre, but I know a ton of folks that will love it. The Early Access version will launch on June 19th, 2024.

Nobody Wants to Die’s trailer came up next, revealing a sci-fi detective thriller. I love the Noir style that the trailer showed, mixed with a good bit of cyberpunk. Nobody Wants to Die will be released later this year on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

Next up is a cute (and interesting) detective game called Detective Dotson. Set in India, you use detective skills and Parkour to find your father’s killer. No release date was given, but you can wishlist it now.

The next portion was a “Ones to Watch” segment, with 3 trailers of games coming in 2024. The first was a trailer for Once Human, an open-world survival shooter. It will be coming to PC on July 9th, 2024. Once Human looks interesting, but the survival market is so saturated I’m curious to see if their ideas are enough to resonate with players.

Rather than putting all the “Ones to Watch” together, we shifted to another world premiere, this time for a co-op game called In Sink. It seems like a puzzle/escape room-style game that requires cooperation. You can wishlist In Sink now and play a free prologue also out now.

Another world premiere came in the form of Dredge: The Iron Rig, a new DLC for Dredge. This second expansion for Dredge will be released on August 15th and will have a whole new area, new content, and a new story. You can wishlist the DLC now.

The next section showcased several games relatively quickly. The first was Diabotical Rogue, a first-person shooter from GD Studio Inc. This 4v4 matchup FPS lets you pick from multiple specializations as you compete to be the last team standing. You can play it in Early Access now.

Want to get your Breaking Bad fantasy on? Or perhaps you want to be a cartel boss? DDS2 is coming to Steam on June 20th and will let you do just that. This action-packed sim lets you take out the competition and climb the criminal ranks to be the kingpin you always wanted to be.

Starvaders is a new Deck-builder from the developer of the hit Ballatro where you pilot a mech and defend humanity. Starvaders is coming soon to PC and has a wealth of items and synergies to set your play style. You can wishlist it now.

Clockwork Ambrosia is a side-scrolling action game putting you in the shoes of an Airship pilot. This Metroidvania allows you to craft “Rulebreaking weapons” to take on enemies and progress to new areas. Clockwork Ambrosia has a demo now on Steam.

Sword of the Necromancer: Resurrection is a 3D remake of Sword of the Necromancer, offering a new take on the story and gameplay. We don’t have a full release date yet, but it is coming later this year. I can’t wait to check out this reimagined version of Sword of the Necromancer.

Antonblast is an Action-Platformer with destructible environments that looks inspired by the Game Boy Advance era. It also gives me serious Pizza Tower vibes. Antonblast is coming to Switch and PC on November 12th, 2024.

In Farlands, you’ll set up a home on the galaxy’s edge. It is also a farming sim with a cozy pixel aesthetic. Chop weeds, grow plants, and chart the stars to explore and save your home. Farlands is launching in Early Access on July 24th.

Did you like Punch-Out as a kid? Big Boy Boxing might be up your alley. Take on a slapstick boss-rush adventure in Big Boy Boxing. I’m down to try any game where you fight a character named “Coach Skank”. There’s no release date, but it is coming soon.

Wanna deliver packages? Parcelcorps is a new delivery-man sim where you play an “extreme-sports-courier”. Parcelcorps will be released on September 3rd, for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

The next game has popped up in our coverage for Summer Game Fest already several times. Screenbound is a platformer where you are playing through a Game Boy-esque screen. Using the world around you and the Game Boy screen, you’ll solve puzzles and collect keys to enter the next level. Screenbound can be wishlisted now on Steam.

Netflix Games took the stage next with a rundown of their upcoming games. Here’s the list –

  • Tales of the Shire
  • Don’t Starve Together
  • Lab Rat
  • Netflix Stories: Perfect Match
  • Netflix Stories: Emily in Paris
  • Netflix Stories: Selling Sunset
  • Too Hot to Handle 3
  • Rotwood
  • Harmonium: The Musical
  • Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit
  • The Dragon Prince: Xadia

No dates were given on when these games would come to the Netflix Games roster, but you can keep an eye out if you have a Netflix subscription.

Next was the world premiere of an interesting sort of strategy game. In Happy Bastards, you play as a team of mercenaries trying to find fame and fortune by whatever dubious means they can. You can wishlist it now, though there isn’t a release date yet.

We saw The Relic: First Guardian at another showcase, but we’ve got another trailer here. The Relic: First Guardian will be coming to PlayStation and PC, though we aren’t sure when. I don’t want to be that guy, but I’m not seeing much with The Relic that is all that impressive compared to other Souls-likes that have come recently.

Office work is hell, right? Well, the upcoming platformer Hell of an Office seems to think so. Run through over 100 levels of platforming madness to try and break your contract with the Devil himself. Hell of an Office will launch on October 3rd, 2024 for PC.

Do you enjoy conspiracies? The Operator is a new narrative-focused game that will give you all the conspiracy and mystery-thriller content you could want. You play as a member of the “FDI”, solving crimes, connecting clues, and viewing all sorts of video and audio evidence along the way. We don’t have a release date, but you can wishlist The Operator now.

Next was a reveal trailer for Deliver Us Home, which is now on Kickstarter. It seems like a survival exploration-style game and looks very intriguing. It is also the next game in the Deliver Us universe, after Deliver Us the Moon and Deliver Us Mars.

The next trailer was for The Precinct and I can already tell Keiran will be all over this one. You play as a cop (shocker), taking on criminals, traffic violations, and everything in between. The Precinct will be released on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on August 15th, 2024.

We got another rapid-fire list of games for Future Games Show’s “Ones to Play” segment, outlining games with demos available now. The list includes:

  • Motor Doom by Hobo Cat Games
  • Angeline Era from Analgesic Productions
  • 10 Dead Doves by Duonix Studios
  • Servonauts from Maxart Games
  • Dystopika by Voids Within
  • Guntouchables From Game Swing
  • Wild Bastards from Blue Manchu
  • Metal Suits: Counter Attack by Eggtart Inc.

Next was a familiar game to us here at Phenixx Gaming, Duck Detective: The Secret Salami. Specifically, this announcement was for the mobile release of Duck Detective, coming later this year. Duck Detective is already available on PC and Nintendo Switch.

Then we had a trailer for a game I’m very excited about, SacriFire. This RPG had a very successful Kickstarter campaign a few years back and is coming this year. You can join a playtest now on Steam, or wishlist SacriFire now as well.

The next entry in the Future Games Show “Ones to Watch” came next. Warhammer 40K: Space Marine II is a third-person shooter and follow-up to the acclaimed Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. Space Marine II is coming on September 9th for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

Goat Simulator 3’s next DLC had a trailer in the next segment. Goat Simulator 3’s “Multiverse of Nonsense” DLC looks to make references to everything from Fortnite, all the way to the MCU. You’ll be able to pick it up on June 19th.

In the next segment, several Indie developers made short “elevator pitches” for their games to highlight a new Future Games Show initiative. The first was for a game called Schim, where you play a little shadow creature bouncing from shadow to shadow to find your way back to your person. Schim will be released on PC and consoles on July 18th.

World’s Worst Handyman is an upcoming “Stealth-Comedy” game crafted by a father of 3 and a small team. You play as an amateur handyman trying to save his local animal shelter from bankruptcy. However, it seems you’ll be avoiding your customers rather than engaging with them. You’ll be able to purchase and play World’s Worst Handyman this September.

Judero is a stop-motion action-adventure game set in a historical-fantasy version of Scotland. Did you say stop-motion AND historical fantasy? I’m in. Judero is coming this Fall on Steam, and while it looks a little strange, I’m curious anyway.

Hermit and Pig is an Adventure RPG about a reclusive old man and his pig, exactly as the title sounds. You can play a demo of this mushroom-filled adventure now, but there is no release date yet. It has a very Earthbound-vibe to me, and I’m excited to see more.

Back on the World Premiere train, we have a stealth-strategy game set in an oppressive dystopian city. Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream is a game about a sister trying to find her brother after the oppressive police system begins hunting him. She’ll uncover a plot she never expected. Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream will be released on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox at a later date.

Run from Mummies is a cooperative dungeon crawler putting you in the shoes of a group of tourists dodging traps and trying to photograph ancient relics. With couch co-op for up to 4 players, you’ll be able to tour with your friends in style…dangerous style. Run from Mummies is coming this Fall to PC and PlayStation 5.

The words “Soulslike, Dark-Fantasy Side-scroller” had my attention in the next segment. Mandragora is a gorgeous action Souls-like that blends Action RPG and Metroidvania elements into the mix. The goal is to release Mandragora in 2024, but there is no firm release date yet.

We’ve seen Dustborn before, but this new trailer showed a bit more of where this road trip adventure will take you. Your voice will change the course of your journey with a branching narrative mechanic. Dustborn will be released on PC and consoles on August 20th.

Ever wondered what a turn-based Bullet Hell would be like? Enter the Chronosphere is a bullet hell where the bullets only move when you do. You can wishlist it today on Steam.

Toy Tactics is a sort of god game/defense mashup where you command and control armies, drawing out strategies and defending your keep. It looks cute, but I need more details on how involved you can get with your strategies. Toy Tactics will be released on September 19th.

An interesting trailer dropped next for a game called Linkito. The stylistic trailer seemed to hint that we’d be climbing the corporate ladder of a dystopian megacorp. The Steam page, however, suggests that doing so will allow you to uncover the truth behind the corporation. Linkito will be coming to Steam on July 23rd.

Shifting gears to a horror vein, we have a trailer for Pneumata. This Resident Evil-inspired horror game looks insanely realistic and has an atmospheric style that I’m eager to look at up close. Pneumata will be released this Summer across PC and consoles, though there isn’t a set launch date yet.

Sonokuni infuses Japanese mythology with the Hotline Miami style. It seems to ask the question “What if Hotline Miami had a parry mechanic for projectiles?” and I’m strangely into it. The trailer was a little hard to watch with the filter they kept using though. Sonokuni is coming soon.

Eternal Strands got the spotlight next, showcasing giant monsters you’ll be facing. I’ll admit I’ve never been fond of this style of game, but Eternal Strands does look interesting. I think it might be the increased focus on exploration and fighting more than just the giant beasts. Eternal Strands is coming to PC and Consoles at a later date.

The only good bug is a dead bug, at least according to Starship Troopers: Extermination. The new update called “Carnage on Planet X-11” might be a risky one. The Carnage system will be allowing bug bodies to remain on screen, leaving piles of bodies around to add to the carnage and atmosphere. Is that risky on older systems? Probably. The update is also adding a new planet, armor mechanics, and more. They didn’t say a word about when the update is coming though.

The Casting of Frank Stone was next, showcasing the new narrative game from Supermassive Games set in the world of Dead by Daylight. The game will launch this year on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, though a release date has not been set. The Casting of Frank Stone will merge multiple types of horror across multiple timelines. I’m curious to see how it turns out.

Another world premiere hit in the form of Nikoderiko. This 2.5D side-scrolling platformer gives me major Crash Bandicoot vibes. Explore magical worlds, play with a friend in optional co-op, and take on bosses in this love letter to classic platformers. Nikoderiko: The Magical World will be released this year on PC and consoles.

Bodycam showcased a new trailer as well, revealing more footage of the photorealistic multiplayer game. You can play Bodycam on Steam now, and there are multiple modes to enjoy. Personally, it isn’t my thing, but the game itself looks stunning.

The last trailer of the showcase was a very thin teaser for something coming from Woodrunner Games. I’m not sure what it is, but there was a frog and a fly. Overall the Future Games Show had a lot of great reveals. I’ve already got a stacked wishlist from this showcase alone. Check out the full showcase (and a few post-show interviews) below.
