Great show, love the focus on games and sprinkles of culture and otherwise, but for the love of Itzamna, there are some production issues I have with the Latin American Games Showcase of 2024. Not from the point of view of a viewer (ok, maybe a little), but rather as the person writing down notes on every game for hours. At about an hour and 25 minutes long (pre-show and main show), I’ve got a lot of games to talk about today. As much as I do like the idea we got a pre-show highlighting the Hispanic/Latin games, it was all for games out now, so let’s do a quick list.
- Zet Zillion by OTA IMON studios and published by Raw Fury, out now.
- Astor: Blade of the Monolith by C2 Games Studio and published by Versus Evil and tinyBuild, is out now.
- Deep Beyond developed and published by Avix Games, is out now.
- Dungeon Drafters by Manalith Studios and published by DANGEN Entertainment, is out now.
- Glory Hunters developed and published by 2think design studio, should be out now according to the showcase.
- Kid Pilot developed and published by Flamingo Simulation Systems, is out now.
- MULLET MADJACK developed and published by HAMMER95 and published alongside Epopeia Games, is out now.
- Read Only Memories: NEURODIVER by MidBoss, LLC, and published by Chorus Worldwide Games, out now.
- RKGK / Rakugaki developed and published by Wabisabi Games, is out now.
- Saviorless by Empty Head Games and published by Dear Villagers, is out now.
Let’s move on to the main show which was hosted by Estefi Varela. I’ll now start noting platforms and complain about the Latin American Games Showcase. It’s nothing to do with Varela, as far as I know, it is about platforms. However, I already fell in love with the showcase when the opening video had a reference to the Columbian show, Yo soy Betty, la fea. You are really trying to make me like you Latin American Games Showcase!
First shown off was anime/JRPG-inspired title from Columbian studio, Dream Uncorporated, Prisma. The next game from the people that made Cris Tales, this stunning 2.5D turn-based RPG is straight onto my wishlist ahead of its predicted Q1 2026 release. This is where I get ratty, at the end of the trailer we got a lower third or chyron as it is sometimes called, noting the studio, the game name, the release, and the platforms with little logos. Those logos were Steam, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. I don’t know if that’s PS5 or 4, Xbox Series X|S or One, or hell, the Switch successor gets announced early next year.
3D dungeon clean-up game Goblin Cleanup was next from Argentinian studio Crisalu Games. Coming to Steam in early access sometime around Q1 of 2025, there is plenty going for this stylized co-op cleaning game with Mimics all over the place. A Viscera Cleanup Detail-like, I think a lot of people are going to be excited for this one when it releases. You can also check out the demo right now.
Brazilian sliding block word puzzler up next in I was Lost. Coming from CH3 Collective, this prospective 2025 release is coming to Steam and Xbox Series X|S. How hard is it to note the platforms in the trailer too? There is a demo on Steam right now for I was Lost and you can wishlist it too while you are there.
Another Brazilian studio up next in Trialforge Studio, showing off a “one-of-a-kind party-based Souls-like set in a callous world where Faith and Science clash.” So, my day-to-day life? Deathbound is set to come to Steam, “PlayStation”, and “Xbox.” I’ll stop complaining when you start showing me platforms in your showcase. A press release after the fact notes PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A demo is out now for Deathbound so you can try and figure out how a “party-based Souls-like” works ahead of the Q3 2024 release.
Argentinian studio Flatline Studios’ upcoming early access Rogue-like deck builder, Into the Grid, was up next. Now, there is a roadmap from April on the Steam page noting there should be a demo out in September. The game also will be part of the Steam Next Fest in October 2024 and February 2025, with early access noted as TBA. The showcase noted a Q4 2024 release, though the Steam page also notes a Q1 2025 release. I’m also unsure when Into the Grid will release, letting you “become a master hacker in this Cyberpunk Rogue-like deck builder.”
Co-developed by Mexican studio Carbon Machina and a studio I can’t dig details up on, Critical Slash, we got a showcase of isometric dungeon crawling hack-n-slash RPG Rogue-like (all the games), Heaven Crawler. Jaw-dropping, that’s what I am left saying, absolutely stunning. You can even be Doc Oc and smash things with your extra arms. Coming to Steam at some point, it was never noted when exactly, though a demo is out now.
Coming to Steam VR and PSVR2 in Q4 of 2024, Bit & Quantum: Save the Earth! is a VR adventure-style game from the Argentinian studio Red Wolves Studios. I’d like to say there was more to say about this adorable and delightful title, though I’m unsure if its a puzzle game or not, because there is so little to say. The trailer is nice, a bit short, but nice.
I go back and forth on Brazilian studio Maximum Entertainment’s Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age a lot. A 2v2 2D fighter with a stunning art direction, I want to enjoy it and play this absolutely stunning title, but as I’ve said time and time again, I don’t like people. A multiplayer-focused fighter just isn’t my jam (or custard). According to the press release, Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age will be released later this year on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch. A demo is available now.
One Card One Shot – Mafia was up next from Brazilian studio YAW Studios, this is an action Rogue-like deck builder where you are a sniper. I think it is best to quote the Steam blurb on this one, “Explore the mafia underworld in an electrifying mix of Card Game and Sniper! Fast and intuitive, perfect for quick fun or hours of gameplay. Choose your mission, build your deck, and face challenges until you take down the mafia boss.” The developer behind Geometric Sniper – Z is doing a similar idea but in a small window of cards in a deck. Coming to Steam, Switch, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox” in 2025.
I wasn’t too excited about Wondernaut Studio’s IRONHIVE when I saw it in the showcase itself, but after looking at stills and getting more detail, I’m getting it now. The Brazilian studio has made a dark Lovecraftian (aren’t they always) card-based city builder with enough darkness while maintaining a decent art direction that I’m now interested. Coming to Steam in Q4 of 2024, you can play the demo for IRONHIVE right now.
Following a talking-head segment about characters filmed at the park outside GDC in San Fransisco several weeks ago, we got a look at Gurei from Brazilian studio Lobo Sagaz studio. It is a 2D monochromatic Souls-like boss rush title “inspired by Japanese mythology,” featuring colorful weapons. Maybe I’m reading the trailer wrong or something, but it seems the weapons you gain after beating bosses are colorful much like keys in Metroidvanias because you need to use them for X or Y boss? I’m not sure. We’ll find out when Gurei releases on Steam in 2025.
I’m loving the current trend of colorful and cozy hidden-object games to counteract the Big Fish Games nonsense. Coming from the Mexican studio behind A Tiny Sticker Tale and Lonesome Village, Ogre Pixel’s Hidden in My Paradise is an adorable little hidden-object game set to come later this year to Steam and Switch in Q3. A demo is available right now on Steam.
Returning to Brazil again for Mad Mimic’s isometric “epic pirate-themed adventure with a strong narrative and a thrilling mix of Metroidvania and Souls-Like elements.” Better still, there are over-the-top pirate accents. Mark of the Deep was straight onto my wishlist and you can download a demo on Steam right now too. Coming later this year to Steam, Switch, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox” in Q3.
The first Chilean game of the showcase and the first surprise release of the showcase is Astrobard and IguanaBee’s early access PvP “spell-slinging dueling game for up to 4 players.” At least half of my note here was right, though I’d called it “fighting Pong,” I am indeed too old for The Amazing Crackpots Club! to make sense. Colorful though buggy, there is a lot of potential for this one. There is a demo out now for you to try.
Franek, Max Cahill, Bibiki, and Fáyer’s (collectively known as Team Arco) Arco is a dynamic tactical RPG with a heavily stylized pixel-based turn-based strategy seemingly set in the team’s home country of Mexico. Coming to Steam in Q3 of 2024, Arco is utterly brilliant in concept, delightful on the eye, and dare I say, sitting on a lot of wishlists now. Not only that, you can check out the demo on Steam right now to get a taste of this Wild West-ish adventure for yourself.
Odd one next, as I have details for Ephemeral Cube saying the studio is based in San Jose, the showcase notes Mexico, I have a press release noting the studio is from Spain, and the press release says “[…] with team members based all over the globe.” Coming to Steam and Switch in Q2 of 2025, Projéct Timi: Sasha’s Curse is a 3D rhythm puzzle title with action gameplay. With a demo out now, I can’t say I’m too excited, but only because I don’t love a lot of rhythm games.
I could have sworn that Brazilian studio, Statera Studio’s Naughty Geese was going to be a sequel to Landon Podbielski’s Duck Game, right down to the Goose in a leather jacket. Similar 2D platforming and the Anatidaes aside, there is a more late 90s style to Naughty Geese than its duck-based counterpart. Very naughty, very nice. I can’t wait to see more about this when it releases on Steam, Switch, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox” in 2025.
Looking a bit like a budget PS3, early PS4 release, Fanny Pack Studios’ (we’ll giggle and move on) Runa & the Chaikurú Legacy is a 3D platformer from the Argentinean developer that I can’t say I’m too impressed with. Harsh to say, I know, but I just do not love the art style personally. Coming to Steam sometime later this year, we don’t have specifics, but we do have a demo to try out over on Steam.
Can we call Brazilian studio, Riftpoint Entertainment’s Vinebound: Tangled Together a Bullet Heaven/hell if you aren’t firing bullets? You are two berries stuck together on a vine, with 2-player co-op, and you have to take out the horde that is trying to attack you. Described as a “Horde-Survival Rogue-lite Co-Op game for 1-2 players,” the colorful deck-building title has some interest but I’ve yet to personally see the reason to pick it up. Coming in “Q2 2024” (which is ending in a week or two) to Steam, you can pick up the demo now and give it a try for yourself.
Before talking about Latin American culture in games with the talking heads at GDC, we got a look at Dominican studio Pancake Games’ Slime Heroes. Also shown off during the Black Voices in Gaming showcase, this is an odd, colorful, and slime-based (duh) adventure Souls-like. There is currently no release date, but we’ve got a Steam and “Xbox” release on the horizon. If you’d like to try it out now, you can check out the demo on Steam.
We keep seeing S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-likes, which means Matias Xavier Rispau/MXR Productions’ The Path Into The Abyss is only coming to Steam when it eventually releases. Set in MXR Productions’ home nation of Argentina, particularly in Buenos Aires, you’ll do very S.T.A.L.K.E.R. things. Which as far as I understand from the trailer we saw is walk around a dark, gloomy, damp, and destroyed version of the beautiful city. We need to see more from this one.
A very stylized “psychological horror [journeying] through a freezing New York City,” Vibe XP’s The Coldest Winter is stunning. Developed by the Puerto Rican studio, the first chapter is set to release in Q1, 2025 on Steam. No demo, though I’d honestly like to see a less edited trailer to get a better idea of the gameplay going forward.
Good luck figuring this one out. Coming from Argentinian developer Ruido Amigo, Hollow Flowers is a “transmedia project that is in the development stage and involves the creation of a short film, an animated series, a video game[,] and a comic.”
This isn’t the studio’s only project either, with a festival, two music projects, two video projects, Hollow Flowers (the game itself), and now all these other pieces added on. Coming to Steam, “Xbox,” and “PlayStation” I’ll be surprised to see it on this generation of consoles if that’s the number of announced projects already. Nice looking game, though I’ve no idea what it is supposed to be.
Much like the last game, Among the Stars isn’t on Steam so you can’t wishlist this one either. Coming from the Brazilian developer Split Studio, Among the Stars is a beautiful eco-centric title that is very colorful and supposed to be coming to Steam in 2025. Though as I say, the only platform noted for its release doesn’t have it on the storefront.
Actually on Steam this time, Mexican Studio Mácula Interactive’s Mexico, 1921. A Deep Slumber. is an interactive adventure title about a journalist. Yep, that’s me sold already. Working as a photo and print journalist in Mexico City following the assassination of President Obregón, Juan Aguirre where he’ll be “swept [up] by Mexico’s whirlwind transformation to modernity, find himself inside the surreal revolutionary art world, rub shoulders with politicians and discover through his camera why Mexico ain’t no place for the weak.” Coming to Steam and “Xbox” later this year, you can play the demo for Mexico, 1921: A Deep Slumber. right now.
The next Chilean game was up next from Austral Games and Abstract Digital. Coming in 2026, this “adventure-horror game inspired by the myths and legends of Chilean Patagonia” is very dark and still quite early by the looks of it. Releasing on Steam, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox” we’ll have to keep an eye on Curilemu for quite some time before we get our hands on it.
I don’t know that this was as much as we saw during the Wholesome Direct earlier in the week, but Mexican studio StudioBando were around to show off some of Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato. We’ve seen it a couple of times, not just here this year but also last year. I don’t know that there is much more to say before Sopa: Tale of the Stolen Potato gets its release date, which should be coming soon. Coming to Steam and “Xbox,” which I can confirm from a press release is Xbox Series X|S, Sopa is set to release in Q3 of 2024. I think I know a little bit more, but I’ll not say too much before that’s officially announced.
We got another talking head segment from GDC, this time talking about music where we got mention of Selena and Luis Miguel. From a great, wholesome taste in music, we got mention of the Chiapas conflict in Mexico following the Zapatista uprising, a war you might not know America was involved with in the 90s. Coming from Mexican studio Bandprice, The War in Chiapas is a pixel-art stealth game with Metal Gear influences and really dark fictional stories based on real-life events. Coming to Steam in 2025, you are A-right if you thought I was wishlisting this rather quickly.
Part of me wants to like Keylocker | Turn Based Cyberpunk Action, but the blurb doesn’t excite me much: “In a silent world where music is outlawed, play as a singer to shatter the strings of fate and sing the melody of freedom in this unforgiving Turn Based Rhythm JRPG.” Rather JRPG-inspired, Brazilian studio Moonana Games’ title is only a short while away from release. Coming to Steam, Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in Q3 of 2024. I lucked out on a press release this time. You can try the demo on Steam now.
Releasing in December, according to Steam even though the showcase noted Q4 and “Winter,” you can check out a demo right now for Travel on, Pigeon!. Coming from Columbian studio Fog Angler, this is another rhythm title. Specifically a “puzzle-rhythm game about a tourist pigeon having a good time, with engaging challenges you can take at your own pace.”
It wouldn’t be a 2024 games showcase if we didn’t have a “Boomer Shooter” to talk about, and so we get Extinction Rifts. Coming from Brazilian studio QuByte Interactive, there is something deeply original and interesting here, we’re not just farting out another Doom-clone.
Sure Extinction Rifts does look a bit like it wouldn’t be out of place in the 90s according to your nostalgia, but alongside the fast-paced FPS gameplay you have a combo meter that the longer you combine attacks the stronger you are. Coming to Steam, Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox Series X|S and One in 2025, this is why the logos aren’t great. I needed a press release for those details.
Coming from Argentinian studio Vampi Team (Valentín Zacarías, Pablo Cuello, Joaquín Calvo) and Vampy Games, Desvelado is a 2D precision platformer with a vampiric inspiration. You might have noticed that last detail already. I think the lead is supposed to be a cat-vampire, but I don’t know. “Turn off the lights, dodge the ghosts and go to sleep as soon as you can,” oh if only I could, I’ve got more of this article to write and others to edit. Coming to Steam in Q4 of 2024, you can play the demo of Desvelado right now.
“In this 2D top-down adventure you’ll explore a sprawling urban landscape, reinterpreting your surroundings through your mastery of yoyo tricks,” sounds more exciting than it looks to me. Brazilian studio Pocket Trap brings Pipistrello and the Cursed Yoyo to Steam and Epic later this year, and there is a demo out now for this 2D top-down adventure that looks like it came from a GBC. Nice, but certainly not my type of thing.
Before a thank you to the sponsors (which was the “mid-point”), we got a look at whatever Wind Runners is. I think what is putting me off of Brazilian studio, Ludic Studios’ Wind Runners is that it has a Q3 2025 release date. I’ll put my hands up and say I don’t know where the development is for it or anything, but I don’t know what another year will do to this action Rogue-like shoot ‘em up aerial combat game. Maybe I’m being tricked by the trailer, but it looks ready, at least visually.
One of the sponsors thanked was Fellow Traveler, which showed off Brazilian developer BitCake Studio’s upcoming title ATOMIC PICNIC. A co-op action Rogue-like, which is supposedly coming to early access despite Steam not listing that. There are a few things here I’m confused about. In the showcase, we got a Q2 2024 release, but an update from the 4th of June notes ATOMIC PICNIC will be coming to early access in September. My only note sums up my thoughts quite simply, “What if Overwatch was against AI.”
Looking a bit like a Billy Connolly sketch, Time Galleon and Gools’ Century of Anticipation is a hand-drawn adventure that looks very simple. I’m not trying to be disparaging to the Brazilian title, just noting its simplicity. It is releasing on Steam and “Xbox” sometime in August.
Super Farming Boy was up next. “Fly, harvest, grow crops & whack enemies with your shape-shifting one-button superpowers as you seek revenge from your evil nemesis, Korpo,” notes the blurb on Steam. This ain’t your papi’s farming sim, instead focused on chaining combos together with your superpowers. Another Argentinean game, Super Farming Boy is set to release in Q4 2024 for Steam, Switch, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox,” with a demo out now.
Following that we got a look at “Point-&-click detective adventure game” – I’m sold already. I think there is a theme that the Chilean games are all quite dark, The Midnight Crimes comes from Deadlycrow Games in Q4 2024 to Steam. Set in Midnight Cove, a Victorian city that blends in some modernism, the art style has a lot of tax to pay toward Borderlands for its cell-shaded inspirations. I want to see more of this one. A demo is out now. Another that is listed for Steam, Epic, Switch, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox.”
No guesses where Despelote’s developers are from with a blurb that reads, “A slice-of-life adventure about childhood and the magical grip soccer held over the people of Quito, Ecuador in 2001.” Coming from Julián Cordero and Sebastian Valbuena, we still have to wait a while for the pair’s very stylized title as no release date was given. In fact the showcase notes “2024,” but Steam notes “2025,” so I don’t think anyone knows at this point. Releasing on Steam, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox,” the website links to a PlayStation store page that doesn’t even tell you if it will be released on PS4 or 5.
Coming in 2025, we’ll get to see Payloaders Strike! some more hopefully. A first-person action title where you play as a robot in a fighting arena, though unlike Clone Drone in the Danger Zone, Payloaders Strike! is a bit more graphically normal for the 3D space. Hailing from Argentinean studio Seven Leaf Clover, there is a demo out now on Steam, where it plans to release eventually.
Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire is a turn-based Flying Ace, Advance Wars, friendship-building, and adventure title coming this September. Strap yourselves in because, it releases on Steam, Epic, GOG, Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. See, you can do a trailer with all the platforms noted. The first Chilean game with a lot of color, though it would be, being inspired by JRPGs and featuring a character name to challenge Cloud Strife, Glenn Windwalker. Better still, there is a demo for Octeto Studios’ upcoming game.
I give a lot of flack to survival crafting titles, mostly because it feels like that’s 90% of games. Mexican studio Novemtails’ Under Canopies seems to be a bit more wholesome and calm than being mauled by a bear in the frozen tundra. Supposedly releasing this November, there is a demo out now for Under Canopies and its calm title. The Steam blurb notes: “Set your own pace as you immerse yourself in activities like building and decorating your cabin, animal husbandry, crafting delicious meals, and uncovering the hidden secrets and valuable resources scattered throughout nature.” I’m in, give it to me.
I would certainly need to be on some special cabbage to even remotely understand Brazilian developer Ninja Garage’s The Cabbage Effect. There is no way I can describe this one without having my editor give me a stern talking-to. One of the screenshots on Steam is a man with his brain out and double-D breasts for eyes. Coming to Steam and the Switch in 2025,
After some talking heads from GDC spoke about retro games, we got a look at the Q2 2025 release, Bittersweet Birthday. We’re nearing the end of the showcase and we’ve only now gotten our first look at a Panamanian game from World Eater Games.
An “action game where every combat encounter is a challenging and unique experience. Learn your enemy’s patterns, plan your movements[,] and tear down your opponent in fierce battles that combine Souls-like dodge roll mechanics with bullet hell mayhem.” Odd given it is a top-down action title, but sure. Coming to Steam, Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, you can play the demo on Steam right now.
Alexx slightly covered Brazilian developer Studio Pixel Punk’s action-adventure dungeon crawling 3D Metroidvania with an anime-inspired style, Abyss X Zero. Coming to Steam in 2026, he was right there isn’t much to talk about here as it is still quite a ways off. However, this is the type of “retro” I could get behind.
“In a world where a robot revolution failed, the last humans search for a way to survive and escape,” the Steam blurb notes for Ghost Creative Studio’s Beacon of Neyda. Post-apocalyptic side-scrolling adventure defense strategy, this is very retro. Coming to Steam, Epic, GOG, and Xbox Series X|S in Q1 2025, you can check out the demo of Beacon of Neyda on Steam right now.
A top-down adventure featuring a little car, this innocent little title becomes a transformer as it becomes an isometric 32-bit dungeon crawler with races. Another from Brazil, Rastrolabs Game Studio’s Roadout is a “post-apocalyptic action adventure that mixes dungeon exploration and racing mechanics” later this year. Coming to Steam, you can play the demo right now, though the release date also has some question marks. The showcase notes Q3, and the Steam page notes Q4. Who knows at this point?
I could try and be nice to Dominican studio Ratika Games about Boyscout – Patrick’s Town, retro and nostalgic games don’t always gell well with me. A top-down 2D-pixel art adventure title, it is charming in all the ways that should be melting my heart. Too bad I’m the g-g-g-Grinch this faux-E3. Coming to Steam later this year in Q4, you’ll be picking this one up on Steam. There is also a demo out now.
Of the games shown during this showcase, Mexican developer CalixJumio’s Super Crane HD was certainly one of them. It might seem harsh, especially given I like the look of this match-3 title, though what more can I really say? Coming to Steam and Switch later this year, you’ll have to wait to get your hands on this simple and colorful little puzzler.
Apparently a procedurally generated Rogue-lite dungeon crawler wasn’t enough of a mash-up for Mexican studio Etherlight and Oatmello. Dreamsweeper is a Minesweeper game too. Well, I’m excited. Coming to Steam and itch.io in Q3, according to the showcase, I might have more details to give. With a demo out now on Steam, you might not have to wait too long as Dreamsweeper releases on Steam on July 24th, 2024.
Mexican developer Playstorm Studios was up next to show off dark super soldier em’ up, Eagle Knight Paradox. You play as a young man (Ian) who is a recent amputee and with the help of the military-industrial complex, you too can join the fight against the invading force threatening your delightful little city of COMALA 88. Coming to Steam and Switch early next year, you just have to wait until February for Eagle Knight Paradox.
Odd to have mention of Irish mythology in a Latin American Games Showcase, but here we are with Argentinean developer SoulBlade Studio LLC and TomasJPereyra. Releasing in Q4 of 2025, you’ll be able to play SoulQuest, featuring a blonde pixel version of The Morrigan (or Mór-rioghan). More of an appeal for the Kickstarter, which is coming soon, there is a planned Steam, Switch, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox” release. A demo is also available right now.
Another game that isn’t on Steam and it is difficult to track details down on, Mexican developer Mogu showed off a very slow-paced trailer for its title, Codex: Eternal Eclipse. A 2.5D well-lit pixel-style game, it seems to be some sort of adventure, turn-based RPG. Downright breath-taking and endlessly stunning, you don’t get to touch this one for quite some time. Currently set to release on Steam in Q1 of 2026, we’re a long way off from seeing more of Codex: Eternal Eclipse.
Moving onto the horror segment of the showcase and the final segment of the show, we got talking heads at GDC talking horror. From making retro pretty to “let’s do something we should leave in the 20th century.” A 2D pixel-based adventure title with FMV segments, Argentinean developers Andrés Borghi and Tobías Rusjan’s Tenebris Somnia seems like an odd choice in 2024. This “2D survival horror adventure” will be releasing on Steam in 2025, but you can play a demo right now.
R-COM: Yum Brains, or as it is called Vultures – Scavengers of Death is a Resident Evil (1) version of X-COM, and I’m here for it. Blending horror and turn-based combat does seem like a whole mess with pacing, but Columbian studio Team Vultures (creative!) seems to have something intriguing with Vultures. Releasing on Steam in Q3 of 2025, I’ll be excited to see more of this one.
“In 1999, a young woman disappears in a nearby forest. Her whereabouts remain unknown to this day. The only trace of her is a VHS recording,” Tell me more about how you are making a PS1 game in 2024. Back to Chile for another dark horror one now, as Dreams of Heaven looks to bring Stay With Me! in 2025 to Steam. There is a demo out now on Steam.
Well, this is embarrassing. Similar in almost every single way to Tensori’s Pools, Argentinean developer Montraluz’s Dreamcore is more Pools but also not. Both are psychological horrors, both are walking sims, really, both are just the same idea. The only difference is that Tensori’s title is out now and Dreamcore doesn’t have a release date. However, you can check out the demo right now on Steam.
Kentucky Fried Battery Farm is up next with Saborus. A third-chicken horror puzzle game from Brazilian developer High Room Studio, you are basically trying to escape the slaughterhouse. I think this is the type of thing that is aimed at vegans but I don’t know a vegan who would want to play Saborus, and I don’t know anyone who would want to be turned vegan by a game either. Odd but I’m still listening to your pitch. Coming in 2025 to Steam, Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as Xbox Series X|S and One. There is supposed to be a demo, but I can’t find one.
Coming in Q4 of 2024, Lightmancer Studios’ first game does have a demo out now for the “fast-paced hack n’ slash Rogue-like set in a gothic, undying world.” Bloodrush: Undying Wish is a vampire-based dark fantasy coming to Steam later this year, and the Brazilian developer already has a demo ready for you to download.
“A Rogue-like deck builder where a new take on chess meets powerful magical abilities,” ah yes, the hot new craze among kids these days, Chess. Another game hailing from Brazil, you will have to wait a while for Dark Crown to come to Steam as it is slated for 2026. To be more interested, I’d have to have someone sit down and explain the game to me as they play it.
I’m blaming Stranger Things for all this hipster nonsense with VHS, as to show off a classic/traditional visual novel, Argentinean-Mexican-Peruvian developer COOL BEANS PRODUCTIONS stylized a trailer with a VHS effect. DIGITAL EXORCIST CF1_DEFRAG wants to tell you how cool it is by doing another dark, twisted visual novel following up from its 2023 free-to-play release, DIGITAL EXORCIST case_(0);. Coming October 2025 to Steam, DIGITAL EXORCIST CF1_DEFRAG is one I’ll be completely ignoring and blaming my Dyslexia for that one.
The penultimate game, finally! Astral Rot is a “fixed camera, survival horror sci-fi game by the co-creators of Tormented Souls.” Chile, you’ve gone dark all of a sudden as Abstract Digital looks to do another sci-fi survival horror. If you want another indie Resident Evil or Alone in the Dark from the people who made one of those In 2021, power to you. No release date nor demo, but you’ll be able to pick Astral Rot up on Steam, “PlayStation,” and “Xbox.” Thank Christ that wasn’t how we ended.
Mexican developer Halberd Studios, developer of 9 Years of Shadows, showed off a nice long trailer for the upcoming 2024 release Mariachi Legends. Coming to Steam, Epic, and GOG at some point later this year, this absolutely stunning 2D hack-and-slash Metroidvania is high on my highly anticipated games of 2024. There is also a Switch port suggested in the showcase, but the recent press release following the showcase doesn’t note any such port for 2024.
The Latin American Games Showcase for 2024 was great, despite the lack of detail on platforms, several of which I’ve been able to look up. From the variety to simply the difference against something like the showcases which focus on North American and European-centric titles with some Eastern releases, this showcase was a brilliant breath of fresh air highlighting a development scene that only breaks through when something becomes big. As always, if you’d like to check out the whole showcase for yourself, that is linked down below, including the pre-show.
