While many people think of June as the beginning of the summer, this June is shaping up to be a battle between two Asymmetrical Horror games. In one corner we have the crowned ruler of the genre, Dead by Daylight. In the other corner, Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, the newest underdog to the arena. Killer Klowns from Outer Space is nearing release, unless you pre-order it which will get you access 7 days early, today, May 28th. Though Dead by Daylight appears to be pulling out the big guns in order to stop the Klowns from running rampant.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space is releasing on June 4th (or May 28th) after it was announced in August of 2022. The game has been primarily helmed by new developers Teravision Games, and has recently added Illfonic as co-developer and publisher of the game. For those who aren’t familiar with Illfonic’s work, they were responsible for the development of Friday the 13th: The Game, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and Predator: Hunting Grounds. This puts the game in relatively good hands and should have a lot of passion behind it since this will be Teravision Games’ first game.

With lots of people looking forward to KKFOS, it seems like Dead by Daylight has been anticipating its arrival. During the recent 8th Anniversary Livestream, Behaviour Interactive released the road map of content for the next year. This road map revealed that the developers are dropping three licensed chapters over the next three months. The first of the three chapters will be Dungeons & Dragons. On top of this, they are releasing a new 2v8 game mode, which is something that the players have wanted for a very long time and some have even modded into the game.

So now that the battle lines have been drawn, who will come out on top? While nothing is certain, Dead by Daylight has had a strong showing compared to its rivals. The two wild cards in this fight are Teravision Games and the Killer Klowns IP.

Both have never been tested before in the video game space, so we’ll see how well they fare. At the end of the day, the gameplay will almost surely be the deciding factor as to which game wins the summer. Assuming that KKFOS‘ unique 3v7 game mode sticks the landing, there is a good chance that it could draw in fans of this genre who have been sick and tired of the way that things have been going over the last few years.

What do you think about this summer horror match-up? Do you think the Klowns will begin a new chapter, or will they be sacrificed to the Entity? Let us know in the comments below.
