There is nothing more beautiful than watching Frank Skinner run around a shopping center chasing people with toddlers in strollers so he can high-five them. Or that time Hugh Dennis dissected a cake, laying it out “anatomically” like a coroner’s table, Lolly Adefope spreading it on the wall, and Noel Fielding just threw another one in the washing machine, watching it spin around. Taskmaster is a special show. Starring British comedians in the original version (regional equivalents for the local versions), each episode features some tasks, and the comedians are arbitrarily ranked by a psychopath who is drunk on power.

It is madness to me that it took this long to create a game based on that concept and it is coming to VR. Announced yesterday, Draw & Code and Liverpool-based developer Scallywag Arcade’s Taskmaster VR will be released on June 13th. Releasing on Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro, as well as SteamVR. The press release announcing the release date goes on to say, “[Taskmaster VR] allows players to step into the contestants’ shoes by competing in extraordinary challenges or to fill the industrious boots of the Taskmaster’s Assistant by creating tasks of their own and challenging their friends in local play.

Making the transition from TV to VR, the game offers fans and gamers an opportunity to immerse themselves in one of the world’s most popular comedy shows. As a contestant, players will complete a series of amusing and bemusing challenges with the aspiration of becoming [the] Taskmaster champion. These tasks are puzzling, physical[,] and designed to allow for outside-the-box thinking with multiple solutions, creating near-endless replay possibilities.

Concluding with: “In Creative Mode, you become the one creating the tasks. An extensive array of tools and toys makes task creation and experimentation easy, with hundreds of in-game items that can be picked up, piled up[,] or used in just about any other way the player wants. The creatively minded can build custom tasks and surreal scenarios, or explore the Taskmaster House and its many nooks and crannies. Players can then challenge friends and family to complete their fiendish tasks in local play.

Draw & Code and Scallywag Arcade have worked with Avalon (the production company behind the show), bringing the world of Taskmaster to life. Creative consultant and the show’s creator (little) Alex Horne voices himself, as well as the Taskmaster himself, Greg Davies, voicing his own towering figure. It goes without saying that I’m excited for this one, a TV tie-in game that is based on doing something stupid like counting rubber ducks in a bathroom or taping a watermelon back together.

Taskmaster VR will be released on June 13th for Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro, as well as SteamVR. Pre-orders are available now.
