I am this close to kicking Rod Humble in the Loughboroughs. Announced yesterday, the highly anticipated Life by You has been delayed once again. Previously set to release in September of 2023, later set to release in March of this year, and delayed until June 4th, I was hoping The Sims contender would be ready to go in the coming weeks. However, as I’ve said, that doesn’t look to be the case, with no window given for a possible release either.
“After much consideration, we regret to announce that we have decided to retract Life by You’s Early Access release date, previously set for June 4th,” the press release said. Going on to note: “This was not an easy decision, especially since we understand the anticipation and excitement that many players have for the game. However, we believe that additional development time is needed.“
It isn’t much of a press release, and in fact, only one more sentence is pertinent to the news at hand. That being on the option to give no detail on the release targets coming for Life by You. The statement reads: “While we would have preferred to commit to a new release window, we believe it is more prudent to hold off while we plan ahead, rather than committing to a new date that we cannot be certain to meet.”
I think delays are a necessary portion of the game development process unless we start surprise announcing and releasing games all of a sudden. As long as I get press releases to notify me, I don’t mind that: a man’s got to get keys for reviews, right? Nonetheless, it is deeply frustrating to sit here time and time again excited for several games and not have definitives on when we’ll get hands-on with certain releases.
Given Paradox’s recent history with the Sim genre, (specifically Cities: Skylines II) it is understandable they want to remain quiet and release a quality game. Not only was the launch of Cities: Skylines II troubled, but the release of DLC earlier this year ended up in a bit of a disaster too, so I’m told. Here is hoping Humble and the team over at Paradox Tectonic can fix and smooth out what is currently plaguing the release delays, then we can enjoy Life by You soon enough.
