My dad has a usual refrain when I cook pasta, “that smells amazing, too bad pasta goes cold too quickly.” I’ve developed my own little refrain here where I’ll regularly complain about PR people sending out emails the day before release or the day of release. ROBOBEAT is another one of those examples as well as another example of those Rogue-like/lite rhythm action titles that have followed since Crypt of the NecrodancerMetal: HellsingerBPM: Bullets Per Minute, and beyond. This time, in place of the hell-theming, the mindless drones running into your rhythmic fire are somewhat robotic.

Describing the title, the press release notes: “In ROBOBEAT, you’ll play as Ace – a bounty hunter on a mission to capture robot-gone-rogue, Frazzer, in his ever-shifting lair. Wall run, slide, and shoot to the beat, blast through robot armies, and track down your target.” Released onto Steam and the Epic Games Store yesterday, ROBOBEAT features 38 tracks to its soundtrack which is also available through Steam as well.

The press release goes on to note, “Following the recent news that two classic tracks from BPM: Bullets Per Minute (‘Judgement’ and ‘The Crypt’) are included in ROBOBEAT as secret cassettes for players to find, Kwalee and ROBOBEAT are thrilled to team up with New Blood Interactive to announce that the tracks ‘Burn in Hell’ from DUSK and ‘Versus’ from ULTRAKILL are also hidden in the game.

Not only this, but you can pick up ROBOBEAT in one of two collections on Steam, featuring the titles mentioned. The Press release notes: “In addition, THE BEATSLAYER BUNDLE is available on Steam and includes ROBOBEAT and New Blood Interactive’s highly popular titles, ULTRAKILL and DUSK. THE BEATSLAYER BUNDLE offers a 10% discount across all three games, delivering exceptional value for players seeking the fast-paced thrills of these first-person shooters.

Going on to note: “THE BEATSLAYER BUNDLE and the previously announced ROBOBEATS PER MINUTE BUNDLE (includes ROBOBEAT and BPM: Bullets Per Minute) are available now on Steam. These special bundles also let players complete their collection if they already own any of the games included in them.

ROBOBEAT is another example of the many retro-style shooters trying to recapture that late 90s 3D shooter but sprinkle something different on top. Certainly capturing my attention at the very least, I’ll be intrigued to check it out when I get the chance, sometime between now and the heat death of the universe. You can pick up ROBOBEAT on the Epic Games Store and Steam for $19.99, €19.49, £16.99, or regional equivalents following the 21st of May, with a 20% discount currently available. For the soundtrack to ROBOBEAT, you can pick that up for $3.99, €3.99, £3.39, or regional equivalents.
