New Content Coming to Tekken and Street Fighter

At this weekend’s Evo tournament in Japan, some substantial updates were announced regarding multiple big-name fighting games. First up, Namco revealed some exciting new content that will be coming to Tekken 8. The newest entry in the beloved fighting game franchise will receive a brand new chapter for the story mode. This story is set to release sometime in the Fall and will feature Eddy Gordo.

Also revealed was a short teaser trailer featuring the second DLC character, Lidia Sobieski, who will be added to the roster this summer. First appearing in Tekken 7, Lidia is the current Prime Minister of Poland who employs a Karate fighting style. Her release will coincide with a series of free updates that will give players access to the new stage “Seaside Resort” along with a photo mode. Finally, some highly requested new game modes such as Online Practice as well as Ghost V.S Ghost are in development, though there is no official release date given.

Regarding Street Fighter 6, Capcom released a fantastic gameplay trailer for Akuma who will be coming to the game on May 22. Sporting an excellent redesign and some powerful combo potential, Akuma promises to shake things up. Releasing alongside Akuma is the new stage “Enma’s Hollow,” and some new costumes for Ed, Rashid, A.K.I, and Akuma himself.

In my opinion, the best part of Akuma joining the game will come within the World Tour and Battle Hub. Here players will be able to apply some of Akuma’s signature techniques such as the Raging Demon and Ashura Senku to their own avatars. Meanwhile, World Tour promises to expand on the character’s story. Additionally, Capcom has promised a significant balance update will be implemented with adjustments to a variety of moves. More details regarding specifics are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.

Both Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are available now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
