This week NetherRealm Studios unveiled the latest DLC fighter for Mortal Kombat 1, that being Ermac. Ermac will be one of the last fighters within the first Kombat pack which contains Omni Man, Quan Chi, and Peacemaker, with Homelander and Takeda coming soon. Ermac is a recurring cast member within the Mortal Kombat series and first appeared as a secret fighter before becoming a full character within Mortal Kombat 3. Since then he’s become quite popular, but was notably absent from Mortal Kombat 11.
In Mortal Kombat 1, Ermac is once again reimagined as a collection of souls given human form. After being given life by Quan Chi and then completely taken over by the soul of King Jerrod within the story mode, Ermac’s mind has once again been restored to a collective consciousness. In-game, Ermac utilizes his souls more than ever before to grab opponents and set up large combo strings. It’s also great to see Ermac’s newest redesign still channels the original ninja elements of the character. Ermac will be available through early access starting April 16th before launching officially on April 23rd.
This trailer also showcased the newest Kameo Fighter, Mavado. This character first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and is a member of the criminal organization known as the Red Dragon. The Red Dragon are the eternal rivals of Kano’s group Black Dragon. No doubt this will allow for some fun conversations between the two. In battle, Mavado is known for his grappling hooks which look to encompass a majority of his support attacks and Fatalities. Mavado will be included as part of the Kombat Pack or can be purchased individually starting in May.
I’m also wondering if Mavado’s inclusion may hint at the return of Daegon, leader of the Red Dragon who appeared as the main antagonist of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Since the main roster already contains many other fighters last playable in Armageddon such as Havik, Reiko, Nitara, and Ashrah I wouldn’t be surprised to see Daegon join the ranks alongside his underling in the future. Mortal Kombat 1 is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
