As I’ve discussed in some of my past articles here, I’m a massive fan of card games and I am always looking for new gems within the genre to try out. SolForge Fusion is a deckbuilding game developed by designers Justin Gary and Richard Garfield. Gary led development on another deckbuilding game, Ascension, while Garfield is the principal designer behind the biggest TCG to ever exist, Magic: The Gathering. I’m an avid Magic player, but have not yet had the opportunity to get a playgroup together to try out SolForge.

However, this week publisher Stone Blade Entertainment has announced that SolForge Fusion will be coming to Steam on April 16th. The new digital client will offer a good amount of content for players to dive into, featuring a single-player Rogue-lite campaign in addition to online PVP.

If you aren’t familiar with SolForge, the basic premise is as follows: “Long ago, the planet Solis became trapped in an endless ice age. Life on Solis would have ended, save for the existence of a mysterious tower called the SolForge. At the tower’s peak spins an arcane sun that radiates magic into the world; without this magic, survival on Solis would be impossible.”

Incredible power awaits at the SolForge. Only the bravest and most desperate members of each faction on Solis — the technomancing Alloyin, the biomancing Uterra, the necromancing Nekrium, and the Tempys elementalists — dare to attempt the journey. Those who survive the pilgrimage are transformed and reborn as legendary champions known as the Forgeborn! As one of the mighty Forgeborn, your actions will determine the fate of Solis. Protect your faction, duel with the other Forgeborn, and uncover the mysteries of the SolForge!

In terms of gameplay, SolForge Fusion is built around various preconstructed faction decks. Each deck is designed to be mixed together with another order to form synergistic combinations and is randomly generated to encourage diversity. Another core mechanic is the dynamic upgrade system. As the game progresses individual cards will level up gaining additional power and providing added effects.

Finally, this new client will also allow players who purchase SolForge physically to scan cards into their digital collection, using a QR code that will be included with sealed products. If you are looking to try out Solforge Fusion for yourself, the demo is available now in advance of the early access launch.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
