Hisense sells a really unique TV setup you might not have heard about, unless you have thousands of dollars lying around. If you do, more power to you. That said, the Hisense Laser TV is a screen 100 inches or bigger that displays a TV via color lasers beaming at the ambient light rejecting screen from just inches away. While the hefty price tag is holding this technology back from becoming a household staple, Xbox is now partnering with the tech company to create a version of the product Designed for Xbox.
“Hisense aims to provide not only superior products but an entire experience that’s designed specifically for gaming and home entertainment,” Jerry Liu, Vice President of Hisense International commented. “Our partnership with the ‘Designed for Xbox’ Program seeks to truly level up the gaming experience and allow people all over the world to enjoy a larger-than-life experience with more than 100-inch of image display[sic].”With no details on price or release, this project is far from reaching consumers but certainly a really cool collaboration.
The question becomes, as it does with a lot of these niche product launches, who is going to buy this? Hisense does have non-Designed for Xbox laser projected TVs for sale now which run for $3,999 USD. The Xbox integration is assumed to be similar to the Samsung Smart Monitors that allow for things like Game Pass and Cloud Gaming to be loaded right into the monitor. If a projector this clear and crisp could be a potential way to experience 4K gaming, then we could be looking at the future of home gaming.
Much like the rumored Xbox handheld, however, it begs the question of whether or not these options are console killers or not. While Gen Z might be willing to give up traditional console experiences, things like cloud gaming pose latency issues and connectivity limitations. In my eyes, these ideas are a few decades ahead of the technology, but I would love to be wrong and have more options than ever to play games.
