We all agree that Peter Molyneux disappeared up himself sometime around Fable‘s release, and many people credit Lionhead’s success to the Fable series. That might be the case, but I stand by the fact The Movies was such an interesting concept that it kept some of that 90s tycoon spirit alive in the mid-00s. Daniel Pemberton’s soundtrack is stuck in my head forever thanks to that game, Pemberton went on to score some small-time films such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Across the Spider-Verse. However, it seems I’m not the only one who loved this oddly fantastic title, as several games now are trying to pay homage to it.

Announced on Thursday, Greek developer Super Sly Fox revealed that its upcoming title, Blockbuster Inc., is getting a Summer blockbuster release. The press release said: “The movie management sim inspired by the classic The Movies game, Blockbuster Inc. has announced it will be releasing on June 6, 2024 for Steam. In Blockbuster Inc., players will have to evolve and adapt their filmmaking through multiple decades, to stay up to date with the ever-changing movie and TV industry. Hire the crew from directors to screenplay writers, build state-of-the-art movie sets, and put yourself in the directing chair to bring your stories to life.“

Revealed in the Future Games Show that no one knew about, you can make a studio based on superhero sequels, spin-offs, reboots, or something more interesting. No, not another adaptation of a fantasy series, please for the love of Christ! The press release continues: “Blockbuster Inc. grants you the opportunity to build the studio lot of your dreams!

Build a set to bring your own original films to life or even your own version of your favorite movies. Whether you have an idea about a romantic drama featuring Godzilla or a coming-of-age comedic version of Oppenheimer, fully customize your sets to fit whatever the scene needs. In addition to the sets, build everything from offices for the behind-the-scenes crew to a cafeteria to keep everyone fed and happy. The entire lot is yours to sculpt, even the landscaping, so keep your studio up to date and stay on top of the ever-evolving trends in film.

Become the next Scorsese or Spielberg with the Direct Scene Feature and hop into the director’s chair to create movie masterpieces. Take complete control of every aspect of your movie’s scenes; set lighting and effects, choose cast performances and stunts, and even choose how the camera shoots the scene. There is a demo currently available on Steam, entitled Blockbuster Inc. – Prologue, for those who are curious about the title. Super Fly Fox and Ancient Forge’s Blockbuster Inc. will make its star-studded or rising star red carpet debut on June 6th later this year.
