Control is one of my favorite games of all time. I could talk for hours about how Remedy Entertainment perfectly executed the worldbuilding and set up a world endlessly ripe for exploration in the future. To my excitement, the future seems bright for Control and its franchise opportunities.

Remedy Entertainment has purchased full publishing rights and full ownership from former publisher 505 Games. Detailed in an investor announcement on Remedy’s website, the €17m acquisition covers not only Control but also the as-yet-unnamed multiplayer spinoff referred to as Condor. This acquisition also covers Control 2, which is still in early development but ranks high on my “Most Anticipated Games Before I Turn 40” list.

The purchase of the IP rights, according to Remedy, “equals the amount that 505 Games has paid for the development of codename Condor and Control 2 to date including a minor premium.” It will be paid in three cash installments over the next twelve months, securing the transfer of ownership smoothly. For the time being, 505 Games is still the publisher of Control until December 31st when this transition period ends.

As of right now, Control 2 is in the earlier stages, with it reaching “proof-of-concept” last October. Condor is in full production, and with Alan Wake 2 releasing last year, we’ll likely see more about Condor soon. I can’t wait to see what comes next for the “Remedy Extended Universe,” but I’m satisfied knowing that the Federal Bureau of Control is still in operation in one form or another.

You can play Control now across all major platforms, including a Cloud-based version for Nintendo Switch. Remakes for Max Payne 1 and 2 are also underway. However, there isn’t much word yet on when they’ll be released.
