I’ll admit, I’m a bit behind on news I should have gotten out. When this broke I should have had this done but I was too busy reporting on the Xbox rumors, which itself could have just been an email. One email I did get last week was about Winter Survival, the survival/crafting thing from the devs behind Gas Station Simulator. As reported last month, Winter Survival was set to release into Early Access on the 28th of February.

The joy of having a Steam Next Fest just weeks before your launch is that you get a whole bunch of people playing a demo of the near-finished (for Early Access) release before launch. However, with that comes a whole lot of feedback, and as a result, Winter Survival has been delayed due to the extra fixes. Not by much though, only several days, literally. It is now set to launch into Early Access on Wednesday, the 6th of March. Hopefully, this will be a better-received iteration of DRAGO Entertainments’ take on survival-crafting.

This is what the press release had to say on the delay: “While this prospect will remain unchanged, additional difficulty options will encourage survivalists to dial in the challenge to their liking for better accessibility. Those who prefer the hardcore mechanics can still test themselves in higher[-]difficulty modes. [The] Wolves’ behavior will see reworks for a more rewarding gameplay experience. These new implementations will require more time, which led to the difficult decision of postponing Winter Survival by one week.

Everything else noted seems to be roughly the same as before: You are one of a group of friends who got separated in the woods, now use your skills to scavenge, craft, and survive as you would while hallucinating stuff on enough smack to down an elephant and get attacked by a bear. The drugs might be a lie, but the hallucinations aren’t. I’m glad the team has taken on the criticism surrounding the demo. After reading some of the feedback, I wasn’t sure how well the release would be with the wolves behavior/balance issues noted.
