It is rare to see older games getting patches and updates long after they are released. However, there has been a recent uptick in updates for older games over the past few years. Giving older games more longevity is never a bad thing, and it seems Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is next to get a boost.

Six years after it was released on PC, Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition has just gotten a new patch full of enhancements. Specifically, the patch improves the UI, HDR Post-Processing effects, fixes over 100 bugs, and adds “significant improvements across the board”. The patch itself was not created by Beamdog (which developed the PC version), but rather “was developed for personal enjoyment and out of goodwill for our fellow players and creators by unpaid software engineers from the NWN community: clippy, Daz, Jasperre, Liareth, niv, shadguy, Soren, Squatting Monk, tinygiant, [and] virusman.

Despite not creating the update themselves, it is good to see Beamdog supporting the new patch. Additionally, it is important to note that while Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition is an older game, it does have an enduring appeal. While it isn’t a large number, on Steam for the past four years it has been recorded that 700 people or more have been playing Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition day to day.

That isn’t a large number (as I said before) but it is interesting to see the number stay so steady for such a lengthy period. Especially when it comes to an RPG from roughly 20 years ago. Though regardless, if you are interested in the update, you can check out the patch notes available on Beamdog’s website. I’m always happy to see older games still finding life even after most people have long forgotten them. Maybe with this new patch, you should revisit it too?
