RPG Maker Festival This Week

As a creative myself, I have always been supportive of fan games and independent developers. It’s very inspiring to me when small teams or individuals can make something that innovates on established gameplay ideas using simple tools. If you’ve ever been interested in creating your own game, this week is an excellent time to jumpstart your process.

Starting on February 12th Gotcha Gotcha Games Co. will be hosting an RPG Maker Festival in celebration of Maker Day. This event will feature and collect over 600 indie titles that have been developed utilizing RPG Maker and Action Game Maker software. Some of these titles will be available for purchase at discounts. Some titles you can expect to see include Ao Oni, To the Moon, Ib, and Lisa: The Painful. The event is currently ongoing and will end on the 19th of February at 10 AM PST.

Key aspects of the event will include a limited-time offer for a free copy of RPG Maker XP software as well as a gift campaign for RPG Maker MZ. There will be ten winners chosen from a pool of applicants who follow the official Twitter account. However, those who don’t win RPG Maker MZ and MV will be heavily discounted at 50% off and 85% off respectively throughout the festival.

Furthermore, the plugin extension SRPG Gear will be completely free during the event. The website states that this product will contain a preset sample project that can be used to jumpstart your own game or simply gain a better understanding of what is possible using the tool. Other DLC content packs containing various assets from armor sets to extra maps or sprites will all be on sale as well.

Finally, the event will also showcase the latest software; RPG Maker WITH which will be released for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4/5. These are some great offerings, especially if you want to create custom games without spending hours learning extensive coding. I’ll certainly be looking into them myself.
