After playing Blasphemous II last year, my interest in Metroidvania titles has only gotten more intense. I’m always looking forward to experiences with great art styles and interesting gameplay elements. Eden’s Guardian, developed by the Madrid-based Voragine Game Studio has released a demo for an upcoming project I’m very interested in.

As a spotlight title for this month’s Steam Next Fest, Eden’s Guardian has a new demo highlighting one of its boss fights. Additionally, the development team is preparing for a Kickstarter Campaign that it hopes will help make Eden’s Guardian a better experience overall. Here is what the press release says about Eden’s Guardian:

Eden’s Guardian is a challenging metroidvania experience with handmade pixel art made by Voragine Game Studio. It is set in a world with medieval and fantasy aesthetics devastated by conflict where the history of Gods and humans intertwines.

In Eden’s Guardian[,] you’ll put yourself in the shoes of a guardian, a creature born from Gods and humans, that after being imprisoned for centuries has finally broken free. But when she wakes up, she discovers that the beautiful world she once knew is crumbling under a mysterious curse. Thus, she embarks on a journey to unravel the secrets shrouded in darkness and uncover what befell this world during her captivity!”

You can play the Eden’s Guardian demo now, though there is no word whether it will remain available after the Next Fest is over. The Kickstarter Campaign will launch in March, but you can sign up to be notified when it is live. Either way, I’m very eager to see more of Eden’s Guardian.

Its unique mechanic allowing you to throw your sword and teleport to it, makes for a twist that could change how in-game mobility works. The art style is also reminiscent of Blasphemous, which is an absolute compliment to the detail and attention of the art team.
