Twitch is no longer the only name for streaming games, but it certainly stays atop of the conversation. While YouTube Gaming and Kick have drawn major streamers away from the platform, Twitch continues to be a mainstay in the online gaming world. Many changes recently to revenue share rates have left a bad taste in streamers’ mouths. Some updates to the way Twitch pays out revenue to streamers seem to be a step in the right direction, according to a new blog post from the company.
For starters, the Partner Plus Program will see an expansion to revenue shares. Launched in October of last year, the Partner Plus tier is intended to provide streamers with improved net revenue share on paid and gifted subs based on sustained success. Streamers who maintain 100 Plus Points for three consecutive months will now qualify for 60/40 net revenue on paid and gift subscriptions to their channel. A 70/30 net revenue share level will now be set for Plus Point earners of 300 or above, down from 350 points.
Another huge win for streamers includes the removal of the $100k cap to revenue earnings. Previously, after reaching $100K annually in net subscription revenue, the revenue share would revert from 70% to the standard rate of 50%. Streamers can now stay at 70% revenue share over the $100k threshold. Prime Gaming subs, however, will now depend on region and include new rates, some of which have declined for certain countries.
The entire overview, which you can view here, certainly seems to make amends for some of the concerns shared by Twitch streamers late last year. While platforms like Kick have drawn away major talent from Twitch, it is still considered to be the mainstream place to stream gameplay.
