As a Metal fan, I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to get time to play the rhythm-based shooter Metal: Hellsinger this year. However, when I finally do get a chance it looks as though I’ll have ample content to look forward to. This week the developers over at The Outsiders studio unveiled the “Purgatory” DLC along with the free “Horde Mode” update. The DLC offers three new original musical tracks featuring some new faces like Melissa Bonny from Ad Infinitum and Joe Bad from Fit for an Autopsy.

Matt Heafy, the frontman for Trivium also makes a return which is great to see. All three are arranged and composed by Two Feathers. These new tracks sound fantastic judging from the brief snippets shown off in the trailer. In addition, the DLC also includes three new outfits: Obsidian, Chromatica, and Amethyst as well as the new weapon known as the Telos bow. The weapon fires flaming arrows that deal massive headshot damage. The ammo can also be collected for repeated use, making it a powerful tool in your arsenal of death.

As mentioned previously, the DLC also launches alongside “Horde Mode”. As the name suggests, this is a classic survival mode where players will face increasingly difficult waves of enemies until inevitable defeat. However, the new mode also boasts some roguelite elements. Players will choose from a random pool of upgrades after each wave building up your character into an unstoppable killing machine. Each run will then award you with Void Echoes, a resource that can be spent to permanently upgrade your character within the main game.

For those few hardcore enthusiasts who complete the horde mode entirely, you can expect an exclusive reward in a new skin that boasts flight abilities.

Metal: Hellsinger is available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. The Purgatory DLC retails for $5.99 and is available now.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
