This week, the newest patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 launched giving D&D fans an early Christmas gift. This new update adds some exciting features. Chief among these is the addition of new epilogues that will enhance the personal experience of each playthrough. The epilogue begins right before the final boss of the game and places players back in their base camp after a six-month time skip.

During this time, players will have the opportunity to interact with their party members and other allies making sure that all loose ends and plot lines are wrapped up before the end. As is true with the rest of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios has made sure this content will be open-ended and truly unique for each player depending on the choices made throughout the playthrough. Larian states that the epilogue scenes have some of the most complex writing in the game, with over 3,500 additional dialogue options and numerous additional cutscenes.

Furthermore, this new update comes with two new game modes. Honor Mode is a truly challenging difficulty setting that extends beyond combat encounters to social interactions. Every boss encounter will also have minor changes and gain special legendary actions, a signature mechanic from the tabletop D&D game. Honor mode also disables many of the common external exploits to ensure players can’t reset after character deaths. Players who manage to complete the entire game without dying on Honor Mode will receive a Golden D20.

The second new game mode is Custom Mode. As the name would suggest this allows you to perfectly curate your ideal experience. Some options available in this mode include hidden dice check values and enemy HP. This allows for a closer one-to-one transition from the tabletop experience in which these elements are commonly hidden from players. Other options available in this mode allow short rests to fully heal the party or disable death-saving throws completely.

These are the biggest new features coming to Baldur’s Gate 3. However, there are also dozens of small balance adjustments and UI improvements that have been made along with performance optimization for the Xbox version. You can view the full patch notes on the Baldur’s Gate 3 Steam page here.

I've been playing games since I was a little kid. I have a soft spot for Nintendo titles and RPG's but play all kinds of titles across a variety of platforms. Outside of games I love to play music and practice martial arts. You can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
