Monday and Tuesday, once again there was so little news that I could take a comment about a river drying up and the change in the planet’s climate, but let’s not. Wednesday, an update on the next update for Shadows of Doubt talked about making the detective ’em up moddable. Thursday, sexy environmentalism and ocean conservationism fully released as Coral Island got its 1.0 patch for PC and consoles, and the latest offering from Humble Bundle is a Rogue-like bundle, because of course it is.
Moving on to this week’s double bill on the Epic Games Store, we’ll kick things off with the nostalgic RPG before I get into our future. Originally announced with the subtitle Festival of Magic in 2013, the title was crowdfunded and was eventually released in 2016 to mixed reviews. With a heavy rework and dropping the subtitle in 2018, Earthlock as it stands right now is supposed to evoke the Square JRPGs of the 90s. Critics have been split, calling it a mix of nostalgic or dated. Turn-based and colorful, it seems inviting, though despite owning it through Amazon Games via Prime Gaming, I still haven’t touched it in the years of owning it.
Up next on the ten o’clock news, the world was at war and someone dropped the bombs. Iceflake Studios and Paradox Interactive’s 2021 city-building title Surviving The Aftermath is the second game in the trilogy of games released by Paradox (developed by different studios) which sees you take on the extremes of survival city-building. Following on from Surviving Mars, you seek to carve out a little bit of the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Earth to survive, thrive, and probably copulate. It is generally enjoyed but has been noted for not being a big breath of fresh air. A mix of city-builders with a hint of that Fallout 4 settlement-building theme.
All this week, you can pick up Earthlock and Surviving the Aftermath on the Epic Games Store until the 23rd of November. Moving on to next week, we’re back to one title with 2023’s Deliver Us Mars. Yes, you read that correctly. The sequel to KeokeN Interactive and Wired Productions’ Deliver Us the Moon, which hasn’t previously been available, is what we’re getting as the penultimate title for November. With mixed reviews, I think it is fair to say it is an odd title to present without previously delivering its 2019 predecessor.
